The focus of our Spitsbergen/Svalbard photo expeditions is on the Arctic magic of light, the impressive landscapes of the Arctic and the wildlife. The light conditions on Svalbard are simply magical at any time of the year. The landscapes and the ice fjords will cast a spell over you. With a little luck we will also be able to capture great wildlife images of polar bears, walruses, seals, arctic foxes, reindeer and birds.

For all our Arctic photo expeditions we charter a small ship exclusively for our group. The expeditions are fully dedicated to photography and there will be no other tourists on board. You will have enough space – also for extensive photo equipment.

This Spitsbergen Photo Tour offers extraordinary highlights!

The Arctic light is magical, and the Svalbard landscapes and wildlife are simply spectacular.
Very good chance to spot and photograph wildlife like polar bears, walruses, seals, arctic foxes and reindeer.
For our photo expeditions to the Arctic we charter small ships exclusively for our groups. Both the MS Origo and the MS Villa are perfectly suited for photo expeditions in the Arctic. The expedition is all about being in the right place at the right time.
The Arctic photo expeditions are led by the award-winning wildlife photographer Daisy Gilardini. Be inspired by one of the best photographers in her field.
You will benefit from a small group of maximum 10 to 12 guests and individual attention from 2 professional photographers on board. Under their guidance you will bring home amazing images!

This trip is unforgettable, but not only because of the nature, the animal and bird life and the silence and tranquillity of this area, but also because of the amazing view and One Ocean. Everything just fits: the ship, the crew, the staff of One Ocean, who left no question unanswered, were always helpful, cheerful and obliging. Especially THANKS to Jenny Brühlmann and Daisy Gilardini. Not only do they have a profound knowledge of photography and the area, they are also very good at communicating it, and they managed to turn me from a non-photographer to a proud owner of a camera and have total fun taking pictures. I have learned to appreciate both of them very much, not only as photographers and tour guides, but also as people.

Accommodation

Small ships, exclusively for our groups

For our Spitsbergen photo expeditions we charter small ships exclusively for our groups. This means that there are no other passengers on board. The expedition crew as well as the photographers are professionals with several years of experience in the Arctic. The route is chosen to offer our guests the best wildlife sightings and impressive landscapes. We have two Zodiacs on board for excursions. This gives us the opportunity to come even closer to the photo motifs. The cabins of our two ships were newly built and furnished in 2020/2021. On our expeditions, you can look forward to an unforgettable and amazing photo experience in the Arctic.

Svalbard Seasons Winter / Spring (April)

Svalbard shows itself in its classic winter wonderland dress. Snow-covered mountains and landscapes and lots of pack ice in the fjords and bays. Depending on the ice situation, the route usually leads along the west coast, which is now easily accessible.

At this time of the year, the photo motives offer themselves in a beautiful and pristine winter dress. White landscapes, much more ice and animals in the middle of an ice landscape. In March / April, depending on the weather conditions, you also have a very good chance of fantastic light moods during sunrise and sunset when the low sun will cover the landscape in warm light.

Summer (June / July)

After winter has gone, many places in Svalbard are now easily accessible by boat, especially the northeast - for example the seven islands (Sjuoyane), one of the best locations for polar bears. On land, the snow is disappearing more and more and shore excursions can be made with the Zodiacs.

The midnight sun shines around the clock in its soft arctic light. The tundra blossoms and there are small flowers everywhere. And it is the breeding season for many bird colonies (which means a feast for the arctic foxes).

Autumn (September)

Many places in Svalbard are now easily accessible, especially the northeast - for example the seven islands (Sjuoyane), one of the best locations for polar bears.

At this time of the year, the landscape wears its beautiful autumn dress. White snow-covered mountain peaks and the tundra in bright autumn colours. In September, depending on the weather conditions, there is also a good chance for fantastic light moods when the low sun will cover the landscape in warm light.

Double room

Single travellers can book half of a double room. If there is no other guest who wants to share the room, the single room surcharge will apply.

Insurance

We strongly advise you to purchase insurance for cancellation and return journey costs, which will be needed in the event of a secluded region being evacuated, a local hospital stay or return travel costs to your home country.
