Helgeland is a coastal and mountain paradise in the southern part of northern Norway. Unique and very varied coastal landscape rich in natural wonders is waiting to be discovered by you with your camera. There are 2’000-meter-high mountains and a coast with one of the most beautiful archipelagos in the world. The road along the Helgeland coast is considered one of the most beautiful panoramic roads in the world. National Geographic magazine has therefore listed it as one of the 101 most beautiful roads in the world.

On this photo tour Helgeland Norway countless photo motifs are waiting to be captured by you with your camera. Discover the wilderness, the glaciers, the fjords and the fabulous mountains of this unique area. With its high mountains and lonely forests, northern Helgeland often reminds you of the Canadian wilderness. Here you will hardly meet any people and have the fantastic beauty of nature all to yourself.

Together with our Norwegian guide Cody, we will guide you and your camera to the wild and undiscovered Norway at the time of the midnight sun. Cody travels several times a year in this special region and is working on a book about the area.

The trip to Tenerife is worthwhile for lovers of coastal and mountain landscapes, sunsets and sunrises and, of course, star photography. The selected hotels are very centrally located, the journey to the photo spots takes usually about an hour because of the very hilly landscape. The photo guides Ralf and Fabio, who were helpful in every respect, reacted with great flexibility to the very changeable conditions, so that we came back not only with pictures of the coasts, mountains and sunrises and sunsets, but also with top pictures of the Milky Way. The fantastic group also bridged the inevitable waiting times in a very entertaining way.

It was my first photo trip and definitely not the last! For me it was an unforgettable experience. From the beginning to the end of the trip, we were accompanied by Jenny and Nick, who were always helpful and friendly. I did not have that much photography experience yet and was able to learn an incredible amount of new things from them during this week. They were able to pass on their photography knowledge to me in an understandable way. With their help, I was able to achieve the goals I had set myself before the trip. Exciting photo spots, great company and exchange with two professional photographers, exchange with like-minded people, tutorials and individual image discussions etc. were all part of the package. The four locations offered many photo sessions in nature by the sea, with enough free space to photograph (without other tourists). "Street photography starts at the end of your comfort zone" - This was the first sentence of Jens Krauer, course instructor, at the introduction to our course in Amsterdam. How true! During four often long days, we slowly left our comfort zone, hesitant and shy at first, and ventured further and further. Thanks to the skilful methodology and didactics of Jens, who confronted us daily with ever new, ever more challenging tasks, we gained confidence and self-assurance. By the end, we had grasped the essence of street photography and were already able to take some beautiful shots. Jens was an excellent and patient teacher who had brought us considerably further in terms of image composition and creativity. I really got an appetite for street photography after the course!

In April 2022, I was on the photo expedition around Svalbard with my husband on the M/S Virgo. An absolutely extraordinary journey with great impressions of a fantastic Arctic and touching wildlife encounters that we will not forget for a long time. We think especially of the Zodiac trip lasting several hours, on which we were able to experience very relaxed and also curious polar bear, the great light moods in the evening and night hours, but also the trips with walrus encounters during snowfall in the backlight, which bathed the flakes in an organ-coloured light and conjured up a very special mood in the picture. We even had the opportunity to drive to the pack ice edge and do an excursion on the pack ice, which is probably not an everyday experience. A big thank you goes to Jenny and Daisy for the excellent supervision. They always had an open ear for the participants, questions were always gladly answered and fun was never neglected. The M/S Virgo is an absolutely brilliant "starting point" for photo expeditions, as everything is very well adapted to the needs of photographers. Another plus point were the guides / Zodiac drivers, who are also professional photographers and always knew how to approach destinations in such a way that everyone has the opportunity to take home their photos of the spots / wildlife. This was completed by lectures during the trip and by the spontaneity of the crew. If necessary, the route was even changed several times a day, just as it was best for the participants. As I participated the trip as a photographer and my husband accompanied the trip as a non-photographer, we were initially sceptical about what it would be like for a partner travelling with a group of photographers. We were very pleasantly surprised, he was very well integrated by Jenny, Daisy, the guides and the fellow travellers and certainly had as much fun as I did. We think back to the trip very often and always say to ourselves "What all we were able to experience there".... Thank you again!

I have been dreaming of the Milky Way on the Teide and perfect pictures of it for several years. Now my dream was more than fulfilled thanks to the great trip with Amazing View, which offered much more than "just" the Teide. It was simply a perfectly organised trip with Jenny and Fabio looking after all the participants, which was top class. I have never seen guides unpack their cameras first then when all participants have found a very good position for their picture. Even if it took a while, they supported, helped and waited patiently until all participants* were placed. In difficult terrain Jenny and Fabio were always there to help the weaker ones overcome their fears or find a firm footing. Simply great this continuous support! Photographically, the trip was a poem of superlatives. The photographic themes were wide-ranging and so there was enough time for everyone to photograph the different themes in the best possible way. Then there was Fabio Antenore. He was not only the workshop leader but also an extremely likeable companion and comrade with a great sense of humour. He imparted his knowledge about timeblending with great joy and thus introduced us - not only the enthusiasts among us - to the subject with great skills. And also our knowledge grew daily almost without us noticing. Will I go on a trip with Fabio and Amazing Views again? Yes, anytime anywhere! Thank you Jenny and Fabio for this wonderful adventure.

I had a dream; to see and photograph a polar bear in the wild once in my life. So I set out on this adventure with Amazing Views. What I experienced is unsurpassable: accompanying and photographing a polar bear in the Zodic....it was a magical moment that turned into hours!!!! In addition I also had the chance to photograph walruses, sea lions and beautiful landscapes. My big thanks go to Jenny and Daisy for their so benevolent way of accompanying me and to the whole crew of the Virgo. Like all tours with Amazing Views, this tour was perfectly organised. We were super well looked after by Jenny and Daisy, who had endless time and patience for us, not only when taking pictures, but also when editing them. The ship (the MS Virgo) is ideal for photographers. The newly renovated rooms are very nice and functional with plenty of space for all the winter clothes. But the hammer is the lounge, which is ideally suited to our needs. Enough space for everyone with their laptops, power sockets everywhere, a big TV for picture meetings and presentations, and always enough pastries to keep our lines in shape. The Zodiac drivers were also responsible for scanning the horizon literally around the clock for interesting wildlife. The fact that these two are also full-time professional photographers was of course great, as it meant we were looked after even better and they also knew exactly how to position the Zodiac so that everyone got their picture. All in all, this trip easily exceeded our expectations.

The photo tour "Wild Scotland" has the right name. We experienced a week with weather typical for this region. Overcast skies, sunshine in between, dense fog in the mountains and short heavy rain showers with strong winds. It was a good opportunity to test out the waterproof and windproof clothing. The tour was well organised and everything worked well. Ralf led the tour prudently with a lot of humour, constantly coordinating with Nick, the local photographer, in choosing the next photo stop. They reacted flexibly to the changing weather. Both supported the participants very well in photo-technical questions and Nick, thanks to his very good local knowledge, was able to draw our attention to small details in the composition of the picture. The photo tour is recommended for photographers who want to experience the wild nature of Scotland and especially the beautiful Isle of Skye.

The tour was super organised and I felt very comfortable. In our exciting and interesting Highland Lodge we were excellently spoiled with fresh and local food by the three wonderful cooks. The photo tour on Lewis and Harris was simply great. The lodge on a secluded inlet was unique. Three ladies spoiled us with local specialities from the sea and from their own garden. The photo spots were varied, from Caribbean beaches to picturesque cliffs to abandoned houses. The supervision by Jenny, even apart from the photography, was super, she took care of everyone and everything. The mixed group of participants rounded it all off and so I spent an unforgettable week on the island. I was very satisfied with the photo tour guides. We didn't have to worry about anything. Dan, the local guide, had the foresight to adjust the photo spots to coming weather conditions. For example, excellent photos were taken in the Soca Valley during a rainy afternoon. Iceland was my first tour with Amazing Views but definitely not the last. It was a great photo trip with interesting travel companions and great tour guides. Stefan and Fabio were always helpful, took their time with questions and you could tell that they are passionate about photography. Scenically, Iceland is amazing and has a lot to offer. We visited impressive waterfalls, barren rocky landscapes, black beaches, glaciers, a volcano (which unfortunately only smoked a bit but didn't spit fire at that moment), Icelandic horses, etc., etc.. One highlight was, of course, the northern lights. I was as happy as a little child about them. It really was a great week with lots of impressions and great photos.

We had great experiences with a total of 8 bears over three days - a good yield, considering that the bears do not appear at the push of a button! Thomas was a confident guide and the atmosphere among us participants was good and relaxed. Slovenianbears did a good job of organising the bear afternoons in the Hides. We had to bring the patience ourselves.... I liked the accommodation at Ana's, the food was good and plentiful. I found the excursions in the morning (underground lake, caves etc.) interesting, they gave us a good insight into the region (only the eagle owls didn't want to show up despite digital calls). It was my first tour with Amazing Views (and not my last). As a fan of wildlife photography, I got my money's worth. It was fascinating to observe the wild bears in the wild. Thomas' technical support was a great help for me as a beginner, and the exchange with the other members of the group was also extremely helpful. Some beautiful impressions from Helgeland

Day 1: Meeting point Bodø Airport

We will meet at Bodø Airport during the afternoon. For the journey to Bodø we will gladly advise you the suitable flight connection in time before the trip. After your arrival you will be driven directly to our first accommodation and have some time to recover from the trip.

During our travel time, nature is lush and numerous colourful flowers adorn the lush green meadows. A perfect foreground for beautiful landscape shots. It is also the time of the midnight sun. When sunrise and sunset merge, the midnight sunbathes the north of Norway in a deep orange-red. It's an experience that makes for fantastic photos and gives you goosebumps.

If the tides allow it, a first photo session will already take us to the strongest tidal current in the world today. You will take unique photos of the impressive experience of the powerful water forces.

At the welcome dinner together in the city center of Bodø you will get an introduction about the upcoming photo tour through Helgeland.

Day 2: Head south to the Islands

After breakfast we drive south over the highlands. Later we take the ferry to reach a remote island archipelago in just under two hours’ drive. The closer you get to the island archipelago, the more impressive the mountains rise straight out of the sea. A beautiful and poignant photo motif lies in front of you.

The archipelago is located on the Arctic Circle and consists of more than 400 islands. The rugged and spectacular island kingdom is a photographer's paradise. The bizarre rock formations, grottos, pretty wooden houses and the unique natural landscape will surely inspire you.

Day 3: Paradise Island Archipelago

After breakfast, explore the island and capture the impressive landscape in the beautiful light. Wonderful photo motifs await you here. Small bog lakes, wildflowers, a rugged rocky coast with tide pools, a small pretty church and all this against the impressive backdrop of the steeply towering mountains.

If the weather permits, take the pedestrian ferry across to a small sister island and photograph the spectacular scenery from a different perspective in the beautiful light of the midnight sun.

Days 4 - 5: On the road in wild Norway

After breakfast check-out and transfer to the ferry port. Afterwards the ferry will take you back to the mainland. You will head north to explore the region near one of Norway's largest glaciers.

The glacier is the second largest on the Norwegian mainland and covers an area larger than the Norwegian cities of Oslo and Bergen combined. The landscape in this region impresses with high mountain ranges. Here, in the middle of Norway, you feel transported directly to Canada. It is a particularly lonely area with hardly any houses and is very remote.

During our stay in the region, we will take you to beautiful places and capture the breath-taking beauty of the wild and beautiful scenery with the camera. Among other things, you will travel by boat across a fjord to the foot of the glacier and explore the surroundings. A sparkling glacier lake, impressive mountain peaks, and the intense blue of the glacier are waiting for you.

Days 6 - 7: Exploring around Bodø

After breakfast and check-out, you will leave the area around the glacier and continue north along the Helgeland coast. The route along the Helgeland coast is considered one of the most beautiful coastal roads in Norway. The journey goes through a lonely area with a fantastic mountain panorama. On the way you will make frequent photo stops for great photos of the unique landscape with fjords, mountains, beaches, and wonderful nature. Our destination today is Bodø, where you will stay for two nights.

The region around Bodø is incredibly photogenic and a real playground for photographers. You'll explore secluded forests, rushing waterfalls, spectacular mountain panoramas and wild river landscapes. Thanks to Cody's local expertise, we will get you to the right place at the right time, as usual with Amazing Views.

Day 8: End of the photo tour

On our last day you will check out after breakfast together. Afterwards you will be transferred to Bodø Airport for your individual journey home or onward.

Accommodation

On this tour you will stay in charming accommodations in the countryside or in a wonderfully comfortable hotel in the city of Bodø.

Bodø – Modern city hotel

The hotel is modernly equipped and centrally located in Bodø. The rooms are comfortable and spacious and offer a TV, sitting area and bathroom. You will start the day with an excellent breakfast buffet. The restaurant serves fine food and pizza and at the bar you can end the eventful day.

Helgeland Islands - lovely B&B

The simple hotel is located in the middle of the main island of the impressive archipelago and offers beautiful, new rooms. The hotel has a perfect location to explore the islands. The rooms are nicely furnished. In the common room you can relax or discuss photos together.

Glacier Region - modern apartments

The aparthotel is centrally located and only a short drive from the second largest glacier in Norway. The accommodation has apartments that are very comfortable and modernly equipped and have been recently renovated. You can expect a modern ambience with TV, fully equipped kitchen, sitting area and private bathroom. You can be active in the fitness room or relax in the communal lounge.

Northern Norway in June

We deliberately chose the travel time because June has a mild climate and the least rainfall. It is also the time of blooming flower meadows.

Thanks to the large expanse of Norway, the country has very different climate and weather conditions. The warm Gulf Stream always moderates the climate on the coast. The months from June to mid-September are called summer. In northern Norway, temperatures reach 15-17 degrees.

Clothing

Due to changeable weather, you have to be prepared for all weather conditions even in the Norwegian summer. We therefore recommend breathable functional clothing in the layer principle, which transports sweat to the outside without losing heat and dries quickly. Also important are well broken-in hiking boots with an appropriate treaded sole. Against rain you should have in any case also a rain jacket and if necessary, rain pants.

Itinerary Photo Tour & Midnight Sun

We will arrange the exact daily program on site at short notice in order to be able to respond to the respective weather and light conditions. In order to capture images at the right time with the right light, we will be outdoors especially during the most beautiful hours of the midnight sun.

From mid-June to early July the midnight sun shines in Helgeland. Experiencing and photographing the midnight sun is a magical experience. Everything is bathed in a wonderful light and the world seems to stand still. Locals often jokingly advise that you can catch up on sleep after returning from Norway. After all, you certainly don't want to sleep through the magical summer nights. Weather conditions permitting, we will therefore also be on the road "anti-cyclically" on this photo tour Helgeland to capture the special light of the midnight sun with the camera.

In between there will be free time to rest a bit, explore the surroundings or participate in image discussions and tutorials if desired. If the weather does not allow photo sessions during the midnight sun, we will be out during the day and capture beautiful motifs with the camera.

Fitness

The tour is not very physically demanding. However, you should be fit enough to participate in smaller hikes to the photo locations. Depending on the weather, we will also hike up a bit to beautiful viewpoints with the photo equipment.

Meals

The Helgeland coast is very sparsely populated, and the choice of cafes and restaurants is therefore very limited. Some hotels offer only breakfast and have no restaurant. Bodø offers a wide selection of restaurants for lunch and dinner. There are also good options for dining on the island archipelago. The region around the glacier, on the other hand, is very lonely. Here we will organize appropriate picnics/packed lunches or eat at the only restaurant in the region.

Half of the double room

Single travellers can register for a half of double room. If no second guest registers to share the room, the single supplement will apply.

Entry requirements Norway

Citizens from Switzerland, Germany and Austria need a valid identity card or passport to enter Norway.

Insurance

The conclusion of a cancellation costs insurance as well as a return travel costs insurance, which covers an evacuation, a local hospital stay and the return travel costs to Switzerland in case of emergency, is strongly recommended.
