This unique photography tour connects some of Namibia's most beautiful landscapes with the fascinating wildlife of the Kgalagadi Transfontier Park. Enthusiastic nature photographers will be able to capture both great landscape and exciting wildlife pictures.

During this two-week photo tour you spend a week in the south of Namibia. The journey takes place at the end of the rainy season. The air will be clear and there are likely to be many opportunities to photograph exceptionally beautiful light conditions and cloud formations. You have an opportunity to photograph impressive desert landscapes, such as the famous Deadvlei and the distinctive quiver trees.

The second part of the journey leads to the Kgalagadi Transfontier Park. The park is famous for its high density of cats. You have a good chance to see the legendary black-maned Kalahari lions. The park impresses with its beautiful landscape. The red, shimmering dunes quickly captivate the visitors.

This photo tour offers an extraordinary number of photographic highlights!
  • The landscapes in the south of Namibia are incomparably beautiful. The fantastic light conditions that are unique to the African continent make the desert landscapes appear in the most glorious range of colours.
  • You will travel at the end of the rainy season. Experience and photograph magnificent dreamlike landscapes with the most beautiful light conditions and fabulous cloud formations.
  • You will have the chance to photograph the world-famous red dunes around Sossusvlei and will stay overnight in the only lodge located in the park. You will be at the right place, at the right time.
  • You will photograph the striking quiver trees, also at nights to capture the imposing starry sky.
  • The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park provides excellent opportunities to photograph big cats such as black-maned lions, cheetahs, leopards and as well as the smaller cats like the African wildcats.
  • The red sand dunes forms a spectacular background for photos of wildlife.
  • You will be guided by Hannes Lochner, one of the most famous nature photographers in southern Africa. You are certain to be inspired by his creativity.


DAY 1 - Arrival in Windhoek
After you have made your own way to Windhoek, you will be greeted at the international airport. You will be taken to the Guest House. The first day will be rounded off with a welcome dinner in a nice restaurant in Windhoek.
Day 2 - The adventure begins
After breakfast we drive over the Spreetshoogte Pass to Sesriem. On the way we make the first stops for photographying. In Sesriem, we check in at the only lodge located within the Namib Naukluft National Park. The park is known for its red sand dunes, Sossusvlei and Dead Vlei. By choosing this lodge we are not dependent on the park opening times. This makes possible that we can be on site at the best time for taking photos.

In the late afternoon we drive off for the terrain and take the first photographs of the captivating and well-known landscape with its huge red sand dunes. The dunes tower up to 320 meters high in the oldest desert in the world. The white pans are a sharp contrast to the red sand and the endless blue sky.

Day 3 – Deadvlei, Sossuvlei and more
We have the whole day to explore the Namib Naukluft Park. The two highlights are Sossusvlei and Deadvlei. Deadvlei will set the pulse of any photographer racing. The scenery is truly breathtaking. You will not be able to get enough of the interplay between the colours of nature with the white clay pan, the black trees, the red dunes and the blue sky. We will get you to the right place at the right time.

In the afternoon you have the opportunity to participate in an optional helicopter flight over the sand dunes.

Day 4 - Tiras Mountains
After breakfast we will drive towards the Tiras Mountains. The next two days will take you to 33,000 hectares of unspoiled natural surroundings. In the late afternoon we will set off into the field for the first photo session in the area.

Dav 5 - Dream landscapes
The contrasts that can be seen in the desert landscapes are infinite from the moment the sun rises until it sets. Relax in one of the eight new luxury tents which all afford a unique view over the Namibia landscape that is so rich in contrasts. Our lodge is the perfect location in which to disengage from the stresses and strains of daily life, relax in unspoiled natural surroundings and capture the fantastic dreamlike landscapes with your camera. You will be taken to the most beautiful spots early in the morning and in the late afternoon where you can photograph the picturesque scenery. There is also a photo session for star photography.

Day 6 – Quiver Trees
Today's destination is a simple camp near Keetmanshoop. From there you have the best opportunity to photograph the distinctive quiver trees in the best light, also at night. Over 300 examples can be found on the grounds of the farm. The scenery is truly impressive.
Day 7 – On the road to Kalahari
We drive to the border of Namibia and South Africa, where the Kalahari Transfrontier Park is located. After the many activities of the past few days, we take it a bit easier this afternoon and recharge our batteries for the second part of the journey. You stay overnight in a beautiful lodge on the edge of the park and have the option to make an optional first excursion.

Day 8 – Cats of Kalahari
After breakfast we leave Namibia and drive with our Landcruisers through the Auob Valley in the Kgalagadi Transfontier Park. On the way we will surely see already the first animals and take pictures.

The park is famous for its high density of cats. You have a good chance to see the legendary black-maned Kalahari lions. With a little luck, you will also see cheetahs or even a leopard. Not to mention the "little" cats like the African wildcat or the caracal (desert lynx). In addition, the park captivates through its fascinating landscape with it's red, shimmering dunes. With an infinitely wide sky, the Kgalagadi is a true place of silence. Experiencing the Kalahari is balm for the soul.

Day 9 -10 Exploration days in the southern part of the park
On the following two days we will go on an early morning and late afternoon game drives with open safari vehicles. You will again have plenty of time to take pictures.

In the afternoons Hannes gives short tutorials on topics of your choice according to your needs and is again available for 1: 1 support. You can of course also just enjoy the beautiful lodge or have an extended siesta during the free time.
Day 11 - Drive to Polentswa
After an early breakfast we start our journey to the northern part of the park. We ride comfortably through the Nossob Valley and will see a lot of animals, a great chance to observe and photograph the fantastic wildlife. On the way we will have a pick-nick lunch. During the afternoon we will arrive into our accommodation.

Day 12 – 13 -The northern part of the Park
On the following two days, we go out in the early morning and in the late afternoon for a game drive. You will have plenty of time for photography. In the afternoons, Hannes gives short tutorials on topics of your choice and is available for 1: 1 support. Or you just take the time to enjoy the beautiful lodge or have a long siesta.

At this time of the year, there are always clouds and with a bit of luck you can take pictures of fantastic lighting scenes in the early morning and in the late afternoon.
Day 14 - Back to the civilization
Today we drive back to the park entrance. From here we will be driven with comfortable vans to Upington where we will arrive later in the afternoon. We stay in a nice Bed & Breakfast.
Day 15 - End of the Photo tour
The photo trip ends after breakfast. You start the individual trip towards home or continue the adventures individually.


We stay in a small, charming guest house in a quiet area in Windhoek. The rooms are nicely decorated. The Guest House has a green courtyard with a small pool. The rooms are equipped with air conditioning, safe, TV and Wi-Fi.
Namib Naukluft Park
We are staying in the only lodge within the Namib Naukluft National Park. It is located in the middle of the spectacular dune landscape and is built in the style of an African village. From each of the 23 generously designed chalets you can enjoy a magnificent view of the red-yellow dune landscape. The chalets are connected by wooden walkways to the main building. Each chalet has its own spacious bathroom with shower and toilet. The rooms also have mosquito nets, solar lamps and fans.

As the lodge is located within the national park, we can be the first ones in the morning and the last ones in the evening to take pictures of the magnificent Sossusvlei dunes. The lodge also offers sunset cruises, guided nature drives by day and by night, and guided walks in the nearby Sesriem Canyon. The lodge also has a restaurant and a bar, as well as a swimming pool, which invites you to relax after a strenuous day.
Tiras Mountains
This unique private nature reserve is located directly adjacent to the well-known Namib Naukluft Park with its breathtaking photo motifs of the dune belt and Tiras mountain range in the east. Our retreat is set in 33,000 hectares of unspoiled nature. The contrasts that can be seen in the desert landscapes are infinite from the moment the sun rises until it sets. Relax in one of the eight new luxury tents which all afford a unique view over the Namibia landscape that is so rich in scenic contrasts. This is a perfect location in which to disengage from the stresses and strains of daily life, relax in unspoiled natural surroundings.
Accommodation near the quiver trees in Keetmanshoop is a bit more simple. You stay here for the perfect location. The camp offers by far the best way to photograph the quiver trees in the best light, also at night.

The camp consists of a total of several bungalows and two houses, both fully furnished and equipped with modern air conditioning. There is also an outdoor swimming pool surrounded by sun loungers where you can sunbathe and relax. The rooms offer good comfort and comfortable beds.
Kalahari Namibia
Comfortable chalets with bathroom, air conditioning and small terrace. The lodge also has a swimming pool, a bar and a restaurant.
Southern part of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park
This comfortable lodge is located in the park and is about 25 km from the park entrance. The area is known in particular for the regular sighting of lions. The lodge has 9 chalets built on wooden platforms. Each chalet has a double or twin bed and a seating area.
Northern part of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park
The Lodge is a classic tented camp capturing the romance of a nostalgic bygone era. The six spacious tents are all on wooden platforms and have a private veranda. They have an indoor bathroom and an outdoor shower.

The main building consists of a spacious lounge with a direct view of the waterhole. There is also a bar, a dining room, a reading area and a traditional boma.
