This South Luangwa photo tour takes place at the end of the dry season. The animals gather at the last waterholes on the South Luangwa River. The chances of taking spectacular wildlife pictures are exceptionally high. The National Park is famous for its high density of leopards, its lion population and the large herds of buffalo and elephant. You will spend a total of 9 nights in three different lodges in the national park, staying on both the eastern and western banks of the Luangwa River.
The trip is aimed at keen wildlife photographers and is an exceptional opportunity to experience in detail and photographically discover one of the most spectacular National Parks in Southern Africa. Temperatures can be hot at this time of year. However, the sweat is often rewarded with exceptional images.

1
Day 1: Gathering in Lusaka
You will be met at the airport in Lusaka (if you have booked a flight connection specified by us) and then transferred to the hotel.
You will stay at a charming hotel in Lusaka. In order to recover from the flight journey you can enjoy the amenities of the hotel.

Day 2: On the way to the South Luangwa National Park
This morning you fly to Mfuwe, the gateway to the South Luangwa National Park. After the one-hour flight you will be transferred to our first camp. Our first lodge is situated in the secluded Nsefu sector.
Nsefu Sektor
In the afternoon, you will join for the first game drive. With a bit of luck you will experience the first great wildlife encounters.
The Nsefu Sector is situated on the east bank of the Luangwa River. In the riparian area you will find the most beautiful and largest ebony groves in the Luangwa Valley as well as the imposing ana trees. In the centre of the sector are the Chichele Salt Pan and a hot spring from which bubbles 53-degree hot thermal water. The combination of this spring with the magnificent riparian forests along the Luangwa makes the Nsefu sector an exceptional jewel. The Chichele Pan in particular impresses with an exceptional density of animals in the dry season. The spring water creates a special habitat for wildlife. Hyenas and African wild dogs rest here, zebras, wildebeests and buffalos slowly go their way, pukus and waterbucks graze undisturbed.

Day 3 - 4: On the road in the Nsefu sector
We get up early each morning. After coffee or tea and a small breakfast, the morning game drive starts before sunrise. You will explore the northern part of the park in the Nsefu sector on the east bank of the Luangwa. Along the river, past countless lagoons or further inland, we go in search of special photo opportunities.
After the morning game drive, enjoy a delicious brunch back at camp. There is also plenty of time for a siesta or, if desired, a photo review.
In the afternoon you will set off again for another game drive. More game encounters await you.
DThe days are rounded off with a delicious dinner in the middle of the bush accompanied by a wonderful soundscape.

Day 5 - From the east to the west bank of the park
After a short morning game drive, we drive to the next lodge across the river in the South Luangwa National Park. In the afternoon you will go on the next game drive.
South Luangwa National Park
Our camp is situated in the middle of the national park on the west bank of the Luangwa River, surrounded by a beautiful ebony grove. This place is known for its always fabulous light conditions under the tall trees.
The National Park counts as one of the most spectacular national parks in Africa. With its diverse landscapes and central location on the Luangwa River, the park is home to a huge wildlife population. Over 200 different mammal species and around 400 bird species live together in this protected area
The landscape along the river is characterised by magnificent acacia and ebony forests as well as idyllic floodplains and lagoons. The further inland you go, the more Miombo forest dominates, alternating with vast grassy steppes.
The national park offers great opportunities for game viewing. The chances of encountering lions and leopards are very good. The beautiful scenery and abundant wildlife make the Luangwa Valley an incomparable destination for your photo safari. The travel season takes place at the end of the dry season. All the wildlife life takes place along the river. Temperatures are sometimes hot. You will be compensated with the chance to take unique wildlife pictures.

Day 6 - 8 - Ebony groves, lagoons and great wildlife on the west bank
You will undertake further game drives along the Luangwa River in the early morning and later afternoon in search of spectacular wildlife sightings.
If desired, you can also participate on another safari activity over lunch. The camp has made a name for itself for its unique photo hides. At our time of year there is a chance to photograph large colonies of Carmine Bee Eater from a hide. In October, the river runs out of water and hundreds of hippos share the space in the remaining pools. There is a lot of action among the animals and impressive shots of the interactions can be captured.

Day 7 - 10 – On the way to the next lodge in the South Luangwa
After the morning game drive and a delicious breakfast, your journey continues as you drive through the park to our next lodge in the southern part of the Luangwa Valley. The lodge is situated in the central area of the national park directly on a beautiful lagoon under imposing, shade-giving leadwood and liver sausage mahogany trees.
You will stay here for two nights and again enjoy two game drives per day.

Day 10: Time to say goodbye
Depending on your departure time, you will go on one last game drive today. Afterwards it is time to say goodbye to paradise. You will fly back to Lusaka and start your individual journey home or onwards.
Accommodation
Lusaka
Beautiful, charming boutique hotel with a well-tended garden, large lounge and spacious rooms. A perfect feel-good oasis to recover from the long flight journey.
The rooms are uniquely furnished and have a small lounge with desk, comfortable beds, a modern bathroom, WLAN and much more. The hotel has a very good restaurant and is about 20 km from the international airport.
South Luangwa Nationalpark
Beautiful bush camp in the Nsefu sector With only 6 safari tents and situated under large mahogany trees, the camp offers a wonderful bush atmosphere. An open bathroom with a beautiful outdoor shower is directly on site.
Elephants, hippos and antelopes can often be seen from the restaurant and bar, which is situated directly on the riverbank.
In the dry season, larger animals such as antelopes, elephants or even predatory cats are often drawn to the water to drink. The chance of seeing leopard is very high in the area around this camp.
Exclusive, family bijou in the northern part of the park
Our first camp is small, exclusive and designed with great attention to detail. The special thing about this camp is the very familiar atmosphere created by the operators and guides. You feel like you are in excellent hands and it is always difficult to say goodbye after a full day of safari.
The camp is located in the middle of the bush, directly on the Luangwa River. It is not uncommon for elephants and other animals to walk through the camp. Afternoon tea is enjoyed on a beautiful deck directly above the river. The exquisite meals are served in an open boma.
Each chalet is built of stone and has a thatched roof. There is a choice of ensuite bathroom with shower and toilet or outdoor bath. There is a solar light and mosquito nets. Each chalet also has its own wooden deck, from the deck chair you overlook the river and its visitors.
There is no mobile phone reception or wifi in the camp.
Beautiful lodge on a picturesque lagoon in the central part of the park
Our lodge is situated in the central part of the national park directly on a beautiful lagoon under imposing, shady Leadwood and Liver sausage Mahogany trees.
In the centre of the spacious lodge is the main house, which is generously and openly designed. There is a cosy library where you can retreat to surf the internet, edit pictures or read a book.
The thatched chalets have their own veranda, which quickly becomes your own viewing platform. Each chalet has an en-suite bathroom with panoramic shower or bath, a private veranda and panoramic windows.
