Senja Photo Tour

Senja, Norway’s 2nd largest island offers a wild and rugged landscape. Senja is located between Tromsø in the north and the Lofoten Islands in the south and is still a hidden gem compared to its famous neighbours. The island is a photographer’s dream destination with its mountain peaks rising steeply above the fjords, mountain passes with wonderful viewpoints, secluded beaches and winding roads with little traffic.

Of course, the hunt for the Northern Lights is on the program every clear night and with the corresponding aurora forecasts.

Benefit from our local expertise and many years of experience. Our photo guide Cody Duncan has lived in the Lofoten Islands for several years and knows the Senja region as well as the local weather conditions and northern lights forecasts inside out.

What our clients say

Fabian

Thanks to Jenny and Cody, despite the bad weather, we were always in the place where the sun provided a great lighting atmosphere for a short time. Jenny and Cody are a great team who took everything off our hands so that we could concentrate on taking pictures. The tips and tricks on image composition and editing were also very valuable. I can highly recommend the photo trip to Lofoten with Amazing Views. I look forward to the next photo trip with you.

Conclusion: We had a wonderful time with many unique pictures....you are amazing.

Lofoten Winter’s Dream March 2022

Stephan

Rugged mountains dropping steeply to the sea, deep fjords, red, yellow and white houses - a breathtaking landscape. Our pros Mel, Cody and Sven made sure we were in the right place at the right time, despite the very changeable, challenging weather, and kept spirits high throughout.

Autumn colours Lofoten, October 2021

Gaby

Lofoten is always worth a visit, but autumn is a special season with great colours - not only in the sky in the form of northern lights. We were always guided to dreamlike, partly hidden places in the best possible light and could benefit a lot from the knowledge of Cody and Jenny. A successful week, which unfortunately went by way too fast.

Lofoten autumn colours & northern lights, October 2019

Anna

The photo trip to the Lofoten was great. Because of the individual care in a small group, everyone was able to benefit a lot, regardless of their level of knowledge. It is also ideal to be accompanied by a local guide, who can immediately adapt to the weather conditions and can always find a good spot - and of course he knows the insider tips.

Ursula

To photograph the Lofoten in bright autumn colours, the changing moods in the morning and in the evening and the northern lights at night were simply uniquely beautiful. Jenny Brühlmann and Cody Duncan helped us with advices and tips and drove us to the very best photo locations. We could just get started and enjoy. Cody knew many special corners and spots, which produced wonderful pictures.

If you want to concentrate on photography, Amazing views is the right provider. The combination of a Swiss tour guide/photographer and professional photographer on location is ideal. It guarantees that, in addition to imparting photographic knowledge, the physical well-being is also taken care of. I am and will remain a repeat offender.

TOP organized trip with 2 highly motivated and talented guides, who gave everything for their clients. I am very satisfied, and I am sure I will book again! This is exactly how a photo tour should be designed. And then once a northern light up in the sky. Great!

From our initial enquiry to our return, the service from Amazing Views has been amazing. The guides’ knowledge and expertise helped us novices to get out of auto mode and produce landscape photos I’ve never had have been able to do on my own. The accommodation were both cosy and comfortable and perfectly situated. Would definitely go on another amazing views adventure

Amazing views, the name says it all: unforgettable, impressive hotspots are targeted. The photographers help to put the objects in the right light and perspective. The trips are perfectly organized. Individual wishes are taken into account. Boredom is unknown on these trips; you are on the road day and night. Wonderful memories and great pictures are brought home.

Lofoten winter dream & northern lights, February 2019

Katharina

Once again, a trip excellently organized by Jenny! With not always easy weather, Jenny and Cody always put together a great program for the day and spontaneously adapted it to the outside conditions. Whenever possible we took pictures at known or less known places on Lofoten. Unfortunately, rain, snow and wind made this impossible on some days. We used the time for joint photo reviews of our pictures, discussed and debated the composition and development and learned a lot in the process.

The trip was perfectly organized from the first to the last minute. The accommodation was great, and we lacked nothing. Jennifer and Cody, our two guides, always stood by us with their great expertise and there was no question that could not be answered by them. Moreover, both of them are excellent photographers and understand their craft perfectly. We lacked nothing. This was my first photo trip with Amazing Views but certainly not my last.......I will come back 🙂

Day 1 – Travel to Tromsø

After arrival in Tromsø, we will make the 4-hour drive to our base at Mefjordvær, a small village in northern Senja. It is the ideal base to discover the island. With perfect views just out of our cabin doors, we will not have to go far to start shooting. And at night, we just have to look up to see if we are lucky, and the northern lights are dancing overhead.

Day 2 to 5 – Exploring Senja

Over the next few days we will explore the beauty of Senja. You take wonderful pictures of deep, narrow fjords, vertical mountains, and scenic sandy beaches. Ersfjord, Mefjord, Husøy, Fjordgård - all names and locations you will become familiar with. We will also visit the iconic viewpoints like Tungeneset, with the tooth-like mountains of Okshornan rising in the distance or the fantastic lookout over Steinfjord.
You will also visit the western areas of Senja, including driving deep into frozen mountains of Ånderdalen national park, a surreal landscape of rock and snow in winter.
Our photo guide Cody Duncan has lived on the Lofoten Islands for several years and also knows Senja inside out. The best photo spots are guaranteed.
Thanks to the small group size, we can cater to your individual needs and discuss photographic topics of your choice and put them into practice straight away (e.g. long exposures, use of filters, photography at night, etc.). If necessary, we will also have time for image discussions.
After dinner, we will keep an eye out for the Northern Lights - if the forecast is favourable.

Day 6 – Tromsø

Our final night of the trip will be spent in Tromsø. If we have not stopped too much on the drive there, then we might head out to Kvaløya for one last sunset.
4

Day 7 – End of the photo tour

We will all head to the airport for our individual trip back home or our onward journey.

Accommodation

Mefjordvær

Our accommodation is surrounded by mountains in the picturesque fishing village of Mefjordvær on Senja Island. It offers brightly decorated accommodation with free Wi-Fi and a flat-screen TV. Guest rooms have a private bathroom and desk. Some also feature mountain or fjord views.

Tromsø

Overlooking the Tromsø Mountains and the city of Tromsø, our hotel offers free Wi-Fi and modern rooms with a seating area and flat-screen satellite TV. Storgata shopping street is 250 m away. All guest rooms have a work desk and tea/coffee-making facilities. Most rooms feature harbour, mountain or cathedral views. Free coffee, tea and waffles are available in the afternoon.

Weather

Due to the warm Gulf stream, the climate of the Lofoten is a lot milder than in other regions on the same latitude, like for example Alaska or Greenland. The coastal climate on the Lofoten is responsible for mild winters. Due to the windchill factor temperatures can reach -10 to -15 degrees Celsius.

Northern Lights

The winter, especially January and February, is the best time to see famous Aurora Borealis. In order to be able to photograph the Northern Lights, the sky needs to be clear. We will continuously follow the weather forecasts and in good weather conditions we will look out for the dazzling lights. The polar lights can appear at any time, but most likely between 20:00 and 01:00. The best chances are between approx. 22:00 and 23:00 (autumn/winter).

Course of action of the photo tour

The exact daily program will be put together on short notice while on location, so that we can take into consideration the current weather and light conditions. In order to capture images at the right time and with the best light during the golden and blue hour, we will be out and about especially during the times of sunrise and sunset. In between, during lunch time and in the afternoon, you will have time at your own disposal. You can relax, explore the area or participate in our photo discussion and tutorials. Upon request or if we have fantastic weather and light conditions, we can also add another photo session in the afternoon.

Sunrise / sunset

During the photo tour sunrise will be approximates between 6:00 / 6:30 and sunset between 17:15 and 17:45.

Double room

Single travellers can book half of a double room. If there is no other guest who wants to share the room, the single room surcharge will apply.

Insurance

We strongly advise you to purchase insurance for cancellation and return journey costs, which will be needed in the event of a secluded region being evacuated, a local hospital stay or return travel costs to your home country.
