Patagonia Photo Tour

Patagonia enchants with wild and fantastic landscapes and is also famous for its population of pumas. This extraordinary photo tour takes you to selected highlights in the Argentinean and Chilean part of Patagonia. Massive glaciers, idyllic lakes, rugged mountain peaks and the endless expanses of the pampas contribute to the diversity of photo motifs in southern Chile and Argentina. You will visit the mighty Perito Moreno Glacier, the impressive Fitz Roy Massif in El Chaltén in Argentina and the impressive Torres del Paine National Park in Chile. Besides photographing the landscapes, you will go puma tracking in the Torres del Paine National Park. Great wildlife pictures require time, which we will take on this tour.

As on all our photo tours, also in Chile we work together with an exceptionally good local partner. This partner has many years of experience and is one of the pioneers in puma tracking. The tour is accompanied by a renowned Chilean photographer who knows both destinations in detail. The photos in this tour description are taken by him and his partner, both professional photographers.

The next trip will take place in May 2024 with a revised programme. We will be happy to inform you as soon as the trip is bookable. Simply send us an email: info@amazingviews.ch

New York - I would never have thought that I would be so fascinated to discover a new kind of photography in the midst of a crowd of people. To document a city in black and white under professional guidance is simply just so much fun!

Amazing Views is really worth of its name on this fantastic journey into the beauty and wilderness of Alaska! Starting with a variety of animals that we could observe, great landscapes and unique excursions...you went from one highlight to the next and when you thought: "More is not possible", the next highlight of the trip already came. Playing brown bear teenagers, who came a little bit closer, bald eagles in flight and very photogenic in the treetop, otters, seals, dolphins, whales, moose, foxes, caribous, black bears, beavers, puffins and much more we were allowed to admire and photograph in the animal kingdom. Among the landscapes, there were unique (early) morning moods, glaciers and lakes, foggy valleys and as a special gift, Mount Denali with all its splendour. And all this on land, on water and from the air. A memorable experience and a very special trip, with great people and the perfect organization and support by Thomas and Jeff! With Amazing Views anytime again. Thanks to the whole team!

Alaska Into the Wild, August 2019

Erwin & Pia

Alaska had been in the back of my mind for many years because of its vast photographic possibilities. Finally it worked out and we experienced such a unforgettable journey of superlatives. During our various trips to USA and also Canada we were constantly accompanied by warning signs for moss crossing, but never got to see one. Jeff and Thomas, especially Pia, were finally able to fulfil our wish and we experienced a wonderful morning in a moose area near Anchorage and were able to take pictures of the animals at close range. An unforgettable experience that we will never forget. To go into all the other highlights would go beyond the scope here. We are grateful that we were able to experience all this at our age.

The Alaska Into the wild photo tour was fantastic. Bears, sea otters, moose, caribous and much more could be photographed at close range. The trip was not limited to wildlife and landscape photography was not neglected. Special thanks to Jeff Schultz. His knowledge, experience and helpfulness made the trip an unforgettable experience. I can only recommend this photo tour!

WOW! It was sensory overload and I'm still processing everything that I saw and experienced. I just finished doing a first look at my photos (over 12,000) and am re-living the exceptional tour. Accommodations, food, leadership and the weather (most of the time) were the best possible. So many bears and so close. Seeing all of Denali for several days was a minor miracle. Flying up to it is beyond words. How can I describe the thrill of the helicopter ride to the glaciers, the boat trip on Prince William Sound with all the wildlife we saw and its gorgeous scenery, Lake Clark with its many bears and their crazy behavior, Denali Camp with its pristine beauty, gourmet food, much wildlife and the crazy road getting there? And the group I was with became instant friends of mine who I already miss. It was a trip I'll remember the rest of my life. Thank you, Amazing Views!

Alaska - Into the wild was an unforgettable journey for me, even though I don't photograph at all. Highlights after highlights, breath-taking landscapes alternated with incredible animal encounters. We saw bears, moose, sea otters, porpoises, humpback whales....., some of them from close range. In addition, the organisation both before and on site was excellent, the accommodations were great and with Jeff Schultz we had a photographer at our side who was not only familiar with the area and always friendly and helpful, but also made many experiences possible for us through his knowledge and experience. Although I was a bit sceptical in advance if this trip is really recommendable for non-photographers, I did not regret my participation in the trip for a minute and I firmly believe that this was not my last trip with Amazing Views.

I am still completely blown away that I had a chance to experience this breath-taking, wild beauty of nature. And watching the King of the Arctic in his natural environment is the crowning glory. This trip was rounded off by perfect organisation and execution, first class food, super nice crew and really great tips from the experienced nature photographer Daisy Gilardini and Thomas from Amazing Views, who delivered a perfect all-round carefree package for me. Sorry Thomas, if I have to repeat myself again and again: THANK YOU VERY MUCH to you and Jennifer for making such trips possible!!! I would like to be part of this journey once again.

The polar bear photo safari with Daisy was a once in a lifetime wonder. Seeing a polar bear and her cubs emerge from their den and later begin their long journey to the Bay was more emotional than I expected. This was the best wildlife experience I have ever had.

I learned to appreciate Daisy very much, not only as a photographer, but also as a person. Once in a lifetime experience, got a deep insight into the polar bear family life, got to admire the polar bears and fluffy, cute cubs playing in the snow! Among the many photos there are some really great pictures, which thanks to Daisy. It was a pleasure. Thanks a lot for the great days!

Despite initial doubts about weather conditions (cold / wind) and hand baggage regulations of the US companies, the whole trip proved to be an excellent opportunity to follow & observe a polar bear mother. Thanks to the peace and quiet and support from Daisy who made that possible. The outermost cold protection suits including shoes were great. An impressive experience that will stay vivid for a long time.

The tours are always super organized by Jennifer and Thomas! I especially liked this tour, because you experience the nature of South Africa and Botswana in its unspoiled form. The animals are not on display, you have to look for them / discover them. But you get to see all the animals, up close and personal. Also, the season with occasional thunderstorms and wildflower carpets has its special charm. Absolutely recommended!

Botswana's Best Kept Secret, February 2019

Kristina & Kerstin

Alaska - Into the Wild was very much to our liking, it was a scenically and photographically varied trip. There is something for everyone, whether on land, from the air or on the water. Unbelievable landscapes, a fantastic sunrises and animal encounters (especially the bears) that you won't forget so quickly. Jeff Schultz is a wonderful photo travel companion; warm, calm, patient and always helpful. A really great person and perfect choice.

I had a dream, and it came true! Svalbard with Jenny and Daisy can hardly be 'topped'. The organisation- incl. consideration of my 'special handicaps' was just great. In addition, the team on board was extremely customer oriented. Thus we experienced indescribable photo events from day to day.

Spitsbergen, June / July 2018

Philip & Barbara

The trip to Spitsbergen with its unspoilt landscape, abundance of animals and the fascinating play of lights was a matter of the heart. We were able to experience a lot on this perfectly organized trip. The accommodation on the ship was perfect and the excursion mode fully met our taste. Among the many photos there are a few great pictures, which are a joy thanks to Jenny and Daisy. Many thanks for the great days Philipp & Barbara.

Svalbard, Arctic, polar bears, glaciers, walruses, birds, and pure nature. This trip is unforgettable, but not only because of the nature, the animal and bird life and the silence and tranquillity of this area, but also because of the amazing view and One Ocean. Everything just fits: the ship, the crew, the staff of One Ocean, who left no question unanswered, were always helpful, cheerful and obliging. Especially THANKS to Jenny Brühlmann and Daisy Gilardini. Not only do they have a profound knowledge of photography and the area, they are also very good at communicating it, and they managed to turn me from a non-photographer to a proud owner of a camera and have total fun taking pictures. I have learned to appreciate both of them very much, not only as photographers and tour guides, but also as people.

Day 1 – Arrival in El Calafate

You will be expected at the airport in El Calafate. Check-in at the hotel and comfortable arrival in Argentina. The photo tour starts with a dinner together.
2

Day 2 – Perito Moreno Glacier

After an early breakfast we will drive with a van to the Perito Moreno glacier. You will take pictures at sunrise. Afterwards we will take a boat trip to the edge of the impressive glacier.
The Perito Moreno Glacier in Los Glaciares National Park is the only glacier that is not retreating at the moment. The impressive glacier tongue is about 60 meters high and more than 4 kilometres wide. Regularly, sometimes every hour, huge boulders of glacier come off the edge and crash thunderously into the water. An unparalleled spectacle.
Before returning to El Calafate, you have time to explore the surroundings. After lunch in El Calafate we will continue to El Chaltén.
Fotoreise Patagonien
3

Day 3 to 4 – El Chaltén

We will spend two full days in the surroundings of El Chaltén. You will take pictures of the breath-taking mountain massif of Cerro Torre and Cerro Fitz Roy. There is a lot to discover in the surroundings besides the impressive mountains. We will also take pictures of rushing waterfalls, idyllic valleys, and the wind-blown steppe landscape of Patagonia.
Fotoreise Patagonien
4

Day 5 – Drive to Chile

After an early breakfast and a last photo stop at sunrise we leave El Chaltén and head towards Torres del Paine National Park. We will drive through the typical pampa landscape of Patagonia and cross the border to Chile. We reach Torres del Paine in the evening.
Fotoreise Patagonien
5

Day 6 to 8 – Puma Tracking

We will spend next days searching, observing, and photographing pumas. The remote Torres del Paine National Park is home to many endemic species. Besides the pumas you have a good chance to see guanacos and with a little luck also foxes. The park and the surrounding areas are considered one of the best places to see pumas in the wildness. The density of pumas is especially high here, not least because of the high and healthy population of guanacos.
Our local tracker will set off before us and then take us to the right places. Smaller hikes of up to about 2 - 3 km may be necessary. If conditions permit, we will have a picnic lunch at noon.
Fotoreise Patagonien
6

Day 9 to 10 – Landscape photography in Torres del Paine National Park

The Torres del Paine National Park is located at the far end of the Andes mountain range. With its impressive glaciers, turquoise and blue shimmering lakes, bizarre mountain formations and the typical steppe landscape of Patagonia, it is one of the most magnificent and wildest landscapes in the world. This rugged beauty of the national park enchants its visitors.
We explore different areas of the Torres del Paine National Park. You will be taken to the right places to take great pictures. A round trip to the Lago Grey glacier is also on the schedule.
You will benefit from the local know-how of our guides. They know every secret of the park and will lead you to the best locations for landscape photography or to track down the pumas.
Fotoreise Patagonien
7

Day 11 – Trip to Santiago de Chile

After a last activity in the morning you will be driven to the airport in Punta Arenas. From here you will fly to Santiago de Chile. In the evening you will arrive at the hotel near the airport. Evening at your leisure.
8

Day 12 – Valparaiso

To conclude the photo tour, a day trip takes you to Valparaiso today, Chile's largest port city. Already the drive to Valparaiso is incredibly beautiful. We will cross the coastal cordillera.
The winding and mountainous city is famous for its inclined elevators, with which you can travel from the lower town to the upper town, which is situated on various hills. We will discover the city with cameras and take a short break at a local restaurant at noon.
9

Day 13 – End of the photo tour

Today after breakfast the photo tour ends and you will start your journey home or individual further journey.
