Daniel

My fifth trip to the Outer Hebrides with Amazing Views confirmed once again that the total package offered (photo spots, hotel, local guide, a perfect group and last but not least Jenny as "tour guide") is hard to top. Starting with the comprehensive information before the trip, the daily organisation of the photo spots which, thanks to the local guide, were not easy due to the constantly changing weather conditions, the consistent and always available support of Jenny and Nick, the comfortable and safe transport from the hotel to the photo spots and the hotel itself (ambiance and culinary), this trip is an experience of a special kind.

It was my first photo trip and definitely not the last! For me it was an unforgettable experience. From the beginning to the end of the trip, we were accompanied by Jenny and Nick, who were always helpful and friendly. I did not have that much photography experience yet and was able to learn an incredible amount of new things from them during this week. They were able to pass on their photography knowledge to me in an understandable way. With their help, I was able to achieve the goals I had set myself before the trip. Our accommodation also left nothing to be desired! In my opinion, the fantastic dinner that we were able to enjoy every evening is especially worth mentioning! It was unbelievable what the three ladies conjured up in the kitchen every day. Every evening, I was looking forward to end the day with the whole group and great food. My conclusion: It was worth every cent and I would book immediately again another trip with Amazing Views!

This photo trip was top notch in all aspects - the guides, the food, the locations, the group. What more could you ask for?

The Outer Hebrides photo trip was my fourth trip with Amazing Views and my expectations were exceeded yet again, especially on this trip. In short, it was an unforgettable photographic experience week with a great and fun group in a time-honoured Highland Lodge with excellent cuisine! Jenny and Nick were always on hand with their photographic knowledge to answer any questions we had. Depending on the weather, time of day and light conditions, Nick took us to wonderful and secluded photo spots. And what I really appreciated: The perfect preparation and follow-up of the photo trips by Amazing Views! Many thanks to Jenny and Nick for the unforgettable week!

The tour was super organised and I felt very comfortable. In our exciting and interesting Highland Lodge we were excellently spoiled with fresh and local food by the three wonderful cooks. Above all, of course, we were accompanied, looked after and supported photographically in a great way. The daily planning was always adapted to the weather/light and our wishes. Rough landscapes, white sandy beaches, 'wild' ponies, Highland cows, lighthouses, ruins and much more. Jenny and Nick put a lot of effort to give us the best possible experience. On top of that we had a great group. I had fun and learned a lot of new things. It was a great week in the Outer Hebrides!

Jenny and Nick passed on their immense knowledge of photography in an understandable way. We were guided to several beautiful, secluded photo spots every day and were able to capture unforgettable moments in pictures. I can unreservedly recommend the tour to the Outer Hebrides - also from a culinary point of view.

Nicole

The photo tour on Lewis and Harris was simply great. The lodge on a secluded inlet was unique. Three ladies spoiled us with local specialities from the sea and from their own garden. The photo spots were varied, from Caribbean beaches to picturesque cliffs to abandoned houses. The supervision by Jenny, even apart from the photography, was super, she took care of everyone and everything. The mixed group of participants rounded it all off and so I spent an unforgettable week on the island. I was very satisfied with the photo tour guides. We didn't have to worry about anything. Jenny and Nick chose the photo spots depending on the weather, time of day and light and were there to help us with advice and action. Even special requests like the Highland cows or a visit to an old cemetery were fulfilled. Amazing Views is absolutely recommendable! Whether for an evening workshop or a photo trip, we would be happy to come back again and again!

Dominique

It was my first trip to Scotland, but definitely not the last! As a part-time press & event photographer, my concern with photo tours is not so much to be supported by the photographers, but to be in the right place at the right time. The group also significantly increases the motivation for getting up early. The local photographers Nick (Wild Scotland) and Marcus (Outer Hebrides) knows their region, they know exactly which photo spots work best in which weather and they also share their knowledge. The support by Jenny and one of the two local photo guides was sensational, communicative and always trying to bring out the best for the participants. My expectations were exceeded by far, even as an event photographer I was able to learn a lot in landscape photography thanks to the support. Thank you very much for these two photo tours in breath-taking Scotland. I will be gladly back with Amazing Views.

Wild Scotland & Outer Hebrides, May 2019

Susanne

The trip to the Outer Hebrides has far exceeded my expectations. Not only is this one of the most charming landscapes I have ever visited, but the journey is rounded off by a time-honoured manor house where we resided and where we were treated with the most delicious food. I would like to emphasize the sensational care by Jenny and Marcus, the two photo guides who accompanied us. Both of them were always there for us participants, answered our questions or actively supported us in taking pictures so that we could take beautiful photos home with us. They themselves were photographically totally reserved. This is something I have not experienced with other photo tours. Even between the trips they both took care of us, e.g. discussing theoretical questions or helping with editing in Lightroom. THANK YOU and I am already looking forward to the next trip with Amazing Views!

With Jenny, Harry and Nick we were allowed to get to know a part of Scotland. I can now understand your enthusiasm for this wild country. Thank you so much for letting me come along. As a beginner I felt well looked after among all the cracks, and not at all as an outsider. I got a different eye for the landscape around me and I am very grateful for that. My photo equipment is always ready.

Outer Hebrides & Wild Scotland, September / October 2018

Marcel

A great trip that brings you closer to the rugged beauty of the Hebridean islands of Harris and Lewis. With the ever changing weather and light conditions we were able to take pictures at different locations. Jenny picks up each participant at his or her individual photography level and gives valuable individual input, so that beginners and advanced photographers alike feel comfortable on the tour.

Amazing Views manages to satisfy the most diverse photographer demands on their travels. Perfectly organized down to the very smallest detail and always lovingly and professionally supervised, we were taken to breath-taking photo spots where the masses cannot get to. Many of the participants were not on the road with Amazing Views for the first time - and that alone shows that Jenni and Thomas do just about everything a photo junkie could wish for. I've been taking pictures for almost 40 years and still learned a lot of new things during the week on the Outer Hebrides.

Fantastic locations, professional assistance in photography, funny tours and warm-hearted people - especially the tour guides. Top organisation before, during and after the holiday. Once again you have left nothing to be desired on the Outer Hebrides! Thanks a million for these unforgettable experiences and of course the great pictures on my memory card! I am always happy to travel with you!

Day 1 – Meeting point Stornoway

We meet at the airport in Stornoway (we will gladly give you information on the appropriate flight connections). Here we are welcomed by our Scottish photo guide. The ride in a comfortable van goes directly to our lodge on an idyllic location in Lewis.
Harris and Lewis are not two separate islands. A raw and impassable mountain range separates the southern part (Harris) from the northern part (Lewis). In the past, the easiest way between the two parts of the island was by boat and therefore, two separate cultures were formed.
During your stay in the Outer Hebrides, you stay overnight in a lodge that we rented exclusively for our group.

Day 2 to 6 – Out and about on Harris and Lewis

We will depart every day directly from the lodge to the various photo locations on Harris and Lewis. Depending on the weather we will take photographs 3-4 hours in the early morning for the sunrise and in the evening for the sundown when the light is best. Depending on the weather, you will have an early dinner and then set out in time for the sunset session.
The Outer Hebrides are a dream for anyone who likes to photograph landscapes. There are countless photo opportunities. We will put together the exact day program on site to be able to respond to the respective weather and light conditions. Our photo guide will bring you to the most beautiful photo locations. All our Scottish photo guides know the islands of the Inner and Outer Hebrides like no one else.

Optional extra night in Edinburgh

Accommodation

Beautiful Highland Lodge in an idyllic location – exclusively booked for our group

On this photo tour you will stay at an authentic Highland Lodge, which we have rented exclusively for our group. The staff of the lodge will take care of your well-being and will spoil you with delicious meals. You can look forward to homemade delicacies and local products. For example, fresh fish and crustaceans directly from the sea in front of the lodge, eggs from their own chickens and vegetables from the gardens. All meals and soft drinks are included on this photo tour.
The lodge is privately owned and is located in the middle of an unspoiled, impressive coastal landscape far away from civilization. The manor house was built over 100 years ago and is preserved in its original style. The surroundings invite you to go for walks and it is not uncommon to encounter deer or the ponies that live here.
Each guest has his own room available (no single room supplement). There are several bathrooms and showers available on different floors. In addition to the bedrooms, the lodge has several living rooms and lounges with fireplaces. Depending on the weather you can enjoy a typical peat fire. Wireless internet, a billiard room and a fitness room are also available.

Weather

It is likely that you will experience four seasons in one day in Scotland. These rapidly changing weather conditions are precisely what makes photographing these landscapes so very exciting. Fantastic lighting effects occur and the resulting shots are instantly much more dramatic.

Time of travel March

The month of March is an excellent time to explore the Hebrides. On the one hand the weather is changing every hour, which can create fantastic light conditions and on the other hand sunrise and sunset take place at very pleasant times. The temperatures during the day are between 5 - 8 degrees. In March there are no mosquitoes and midges and you can take pictures without being disturbed.

Time of travel May

May is one of the best times to travel to Scotland as it statistically has the least amount of rainfall and the most amount of sunshine next to June. The daytime temperatures are a mild 10 to 14 degrees. In April/May there are also very few flies and midges so you can photograph without being troubled.

Fitness level

The tour is not particularly physically demanding. Short walks are required to reach the photo locations. The hiking trails in Scotland (if they exist at all) can sometimes be uneven or boggy as they usually cross moorland and heathland.

Order of events for the photo workshop / photo tour

So that you can capture photos at the right time with the right light during the early hours and twilight, we will be out and about for around four hours particularly around the hours of sunrise and sunset. You then have some time available during the morning and afternoon to rest, catch up on sleep, explore the surrounding area or take part in image critiques and tutorials if you so wish.

Double room

Single travellers can book half of a double room. If there is no other guest who wants to share the room, the single room surcharge will apply.

Entry requirements Scotland

Swiss, German and Austrian citizens need a valid identity card or passport to enter the UK. The documents must be valid until the end of the trip.

Insurance

We strongly advise you to purchase insurance for cancellation and return journey costs, which will be needed in the event of a secluded region being evacuated, a local hospital stay or return travel costs to your home country.
