The Masai Mara National Reserve is located in the south of Kenya in the Great Rift Valley. It borders the Serengeti National Park of Tanzania and together they form an ecosystem and one of the greatest highlights of Africa. The park was named after the first people in this region, the Maasai, who still live here today. “Mara” means “spotted” and this is exactly how the Masai Mara landscape looks with its many short bushy trees amidst the endless grasslands.

The Kenyan wildlife sanctuary has a size of 1’510 kilometres. It is considered one of the best wildlife viewing destinations in the world and is known for its uniquely high density of big cats. The great migration of the wildebeest is an annual spectacle when over 1.5 million animals cross the dangerous Mara River in search of water.

On this Masai Mara photo tour, limited to only 3 people, you will stay in small luxury tented camps both in the nature reserve and in a private concession area far from the tourist crowds. A private concession area has the advantage that the number of safari vehicles and lodges is very limited, and guides are allowed to drive off the beaten track. This allows you to enjoy and photograph sightings up close from the front row.

In order to provide individual support & guidance and a unique experience, this tour will be organised exclusively in a limited small group of only 3 persons.

For the second time after 2019, we were able to travel to Namibia along with Amazing Views. Although Covid-19 made a lot of things more complicated, the organisation was smooth from A-Z. I have been to Botswana with Amazing Views before, I was also lucky enough to go on the first trip to Churchill to see the Polar Bear babies. All trips were unforgettable. Day 1: Arrival to Nairobi

Karibu Kenya! After landing at Jomo Kenya International Airport, you will be picked up if you have booked a flight connection specified by us. Transfer to the hotel in Nairobi and check-in. Get to know the tour group and have dinner together.

Day 2: On the road to the Masai Mara

Today you will have an early start. After breakfast you will be driven back to the airport. You will fly to Ol Kiombo in the Masai Mara. The flight to the nature reserve takes about 50 minutes. After landing in the Masai Mara Nature Reserve, you will be driven to our Wilderness Camp and move into your luxurious tent.

The camp is superbly located and is an admirable project involving the surrounding Masai villages with jobs and support. The abundance of game in this region of the Masai Mara is exceptional and is sure to provide you with many great wildlife experiences.

In the course of the afternoon you will undertake your first game drive. With a little luck you will experience the first sightings.

Day 3 - 4: In the kingdom of the animals

We get up early and after a coffee or tea we start the morning game drive. Depending on the route and sightings we have breakfast on the way or return to camp. The region offers excellent opportunities to observe and photograph lions, cheetahs, hyenas, elephants, giraffes and many other mammals. We may already see the first animals on their annual migration.

After the morning game drive and lunch there will be enough time for a siesta. If desired, an individual photo session with James is possible.

In the late afternoon we will go on the second game drive. More unforgettable wildlife experiences await you in the Masai Mara.

Day 5: On the road for the next Lodge

In the morning you will check out of the Wilderness Camp. You will then embark on a long game drive that will end at our second camp in the Naboisho Conservancy. On the way you will have another opportunity to photograph the magnificent wildlife of the Masai Mara.

After check-in, a light lunch and a relaxing siesta, you will embark on the next game drive in the afternoon.

Day 6-7: Even more sightings

We start the days early and do two game drives or walks per day. The region has the highest concentration of giraffes in the Masai Mara and you are sure to see these elegant animals along with many more in front of your camera. Mara Naboisho is not known as Big Cat Country without reason. One of the largest prides of lions lives in this conservancy and leopards are also a popular sighting.

Our camp is located in the heart of the Masai Mara conservancies. Here great emphasis is placed on exclusivity and only 1 bed falls on 140 hectares of landscape. The Naboisho Conservancy is a prime example of conservation involving local people. The area was established in 2010 and has a size of 210 square kilometers. Naboisho means "coming together" in the local Maa language.

Only 4x4 safari vehicles are allowed in this area and no minibuses. The vehicles are limited in number and are allowed to drive off the trails. This guarantees exclusive privacy and best sightings for your safari.

Day 8: End of the photo tour

In the morning, a final game drive is on the agenda. After breakfast, you will begin your return journey to Nairobi. After the domestic flight, you will be transferred to the international airport. This is where your photo tour ends.

Accommodation

Nairobi

This cozy, mid-range hotel features classically furnished rooms that are air-conditioned and equipped with a flat-screen satellite TV. Tea and coffee facilities are also provided in the room. The private bathroom offers a shower. Bathrobes, slippers and toiletries are provided. The highlight of the hotel is the great garden area with pool. It is a small green oasis in the middle of the vibrant African metropolis.

Wilderness Camp in National Park

The Wilderness Camp consists of only three comfortable tents and therefore guarantees a unique ambience with a lot of privacy. Each tent has a private veranda and bathroom. The toilets have a flush. Your safari shower will be filled with hot water at all times.

The tents are idyllically situated and offer a unique view of the African bush. The comfortable furnishing guarantees a pleasant stay.

The camp also has a communal tent with a lounge and dining area.

Camp in the Naboisho Conservancy

Our camp in the Naboisho Conservancy is very privately located in the secluded Kicheche Valley. It consists of only 6 luxurious tents built on platforms. From your tent accommodation you look out over the breath-taking landscape of Naboisho and watch the animals. The tent is equipped with hot and cold running water and the toilet is flush.

The camp also has a central lounge and dining area.

Climate

Kenya can be visited all year round. From mid-December to the beginning of March and from the beginning of June to the end of October, Kenya has a dry season. In July the climate is pleasant with minimum temperatures around 10 - 15 degrees and maximum temperatures around 20 - 25 degrees. However, it can get very cool at night or early in the morning or in the evening during game drives. We strongly recommend packing a warm jacket / fleece for the game drives.

Luggage

When flying domestically, you benefit from an increased baggage limit. You can take your photo equipment with you without worrying about the usual 15 kg limit per person for checked and carry-on baggage.

Fitness / Condition

The tour does not have any special physical demands.

Health

No vaccinations are required, but some are recommended (malaria, yellow fever, etc.). Please consult a tropical doctor, institute or your family doctor. There you will receive the necessary advice and medication. Please also note the currently valid Corona entry regulations.

Entry requirements Kenya

Swiss and EU citizens need a passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the return date and a visa to enter Kenya. The required tourist visa for entry into Kenya can be applied for electronically before departure.

Insurance

We strongly advise you to purchase insurance for cancellation and return journey costs, which will be needed in the event of a secluded region being evacuated, a local hospital stay or return travel costs to your home country.
