The Masai Mara is one of Africa’s most famous wildlife areas. The region is famous for regular and spectacular animal sightings. On the Masai Mara Explorer photo tour you have very good chances to photograph big cats like lions, leopards or cheetahs, among others. This photo tour is pure Africa! Look forward to great wildlife sightings, a picture-perfect African savannah landscape and breathtaking sunrises and sunsets.

With Mara North and Olare Motorogi you will visit two private concessions, which are directly adjacent to the Masai Mara National Park. Private concessions have the advantage that the number of safari vehicles and lodges is strictly limited. These are the best conditions to enjoy front row sightings and photography. In addition, the guides are allowed to drive off road in the private concessions. This allows you being up close and personal!

I have been to Botswana with Amazing Views before, I was also lucky enough to go on the first trip to Churchill to see the Polar Bear babies. All trips were unforgettable. Now again, to travel to Botswana during the rainy season was awesome for me. To photograph the animals between the lush green and yellow flowers, and to see them rolling around in it was fantastic. Plants, which I had thought to be dead in October, came back to life. Unique and an unforgettable experience. The trip was as usual, very well organized and everything went like clockwork. The tours are always super organized by Jennifer and Thomas! I especially liked this tour, because you experience the nature of South Africa and Botswana in its unspoiled form. The animals are not on display, you have to look for them / discover them. But you get to see all the animals, up close and personal. Also, the season with occasional thunderstorms and wildflower carpets has its special charm. Absolutely recommended!

The most beautiful impressions from the Masai Mara.

Day 1: Meeting at Nairobi

You will be picked up at Jomo Kenya International Airport (if booking a flight connection, which we have specified) and afterwards you will have a transfer to the hotel in Nairobi. Enjoy the amenities of the hotel in order to recover from the flight journey.

Day 2: On the way to the Masai Mara

Today you will have an early start. After breakfast, you will be driven to Wilson Airport. You will fly with a small aircraft to the Mara North Conservancy. The flight takes about 60 minutes. Afterwards you will drive to our camp and check into your room. The camp is excellently situated. The abundance of game in the area is exceptional.

The first game drive will take place in the afternoon. With a little luck you will experience the first great sightings.

Day 3 - 4: In the realm of animals

We get up early in the morning. After a coffee or tea, the morning game drive begins. Depending on the route and sightings we have breakfast on the way or return to camp. The private concession Mara North, on the northern border of the national park, was established in 2009 and consists of over 300 square kilometres. The Mara North Conservation Area is a significant wildlife and ecosystem corridor.

After the morning game drive, there is ample time for a siesta or photo review if desired.

Later in the afternoon we will go on the second game drive. More great sightings are waiting for you.

The day is rounded off with a delicious dinner in the middle of the bush.

Day 5: On the way to the next lodge

In the morning you will go on a long game drive which ends at the second camp in the Olare Motorgi Conservancy. On the way you will have the opportunity to photograph the magnificent wildlife of the Masai Mara.

After check-in, a light lunch, and a relaxing siesta, you will embark on the next game drive in the afternoon.

Day 6 - 7: more wildlife

We will again do 2 game drives per day. The region is especially known for regular sightings of leopards. With a bit of luck you will photograph the elegant cats in the best light.

The Olare Motorogi Conservation Area was established in May 2006 and serves as a prime example of its conservation work involving the local community. The area covers 139 square kilometres. Olare is a leader in sustainable tourism in the Masai Mara. The number of tents per camp is limited to twelve, with each tent guaranteed at least 3 square kilometres of viewing area.

Day 8: End of the photo tour

Depending on the departure time, we will do another game drive in the morning. After that it is time to say goodbye. The photo tour ends after the return flight back to Nairobi.

Accommodation

Nairobi

Cozy middle class hotel with restaurant, pool and free wifi. All rooms have a separate bathroom and air conditioning.

Mara North Conservancy

The lodge is a classic tented camp set amidst magnificent acacia trees in the Mara North Conservancy. All tents overlook a river and offer an intimate and relaxing atmosphere. The camp's lounge offers breath-taking views of the valley and has comfortable seating and a library. Meals are always enjoyed in the idyllic garden.

Each tent is extremely comfortable and stylishly furnished and protected all around with mosquito nets. The bathroom has a flush toilet and a hot shower. Guests can make themselves comfortable on the private veranda in armchairs and on deck chairs and enjoy the magnificent views of nature.

Olare Motorogi Conservancy

The small camp is situated on a small hilltop under acacia trees in the 30,000 ha Olare Motorgi Conservancy. This private concession has a regulated number of beds with only a few camps. You will benefit from a low number of tourists.

The small and close to nature camp has 6 tents, which are far away from each other and thus guarantee pure privacy. The tents are stylishly and elegantly furnished and have a small lounge area in the front. Each tent has its own spacious bathroom with a traditional bucket shower. This can be filled with hot water at any time on request.

Excellent meals are enjoyed in the beautiful common area. Lunch is often served outside under the trees.

Climate

Kenya can be visited all year round. From mid-December to the beginning of March and from the beginning of June to the end of October, Kenya has a dry season. In August / September the climate is pleasant with minimum temperatures around 10 - 15 degrees and maximum temperatures around 20 - 25 degrees. However, it can get very cool at night or early in the morning or in the evening during game drives. We strongly recommend packing a warm jacket / fleece for the game drives.

Fitness / Condition

The trip does not make any special physical demands.

Health

For travel to certain areas of Namibia, malaria prophylaxis and the usual vaccinations are strongly recommended. Please consult a tropical doctor, institute or your family doctor for advice.

Half double room

Single travelers can register for a half double room. If no second guest registers to share the room, the single supplement will apply.

Entry requirements Kenya

For entry into Kenya, Swiss and EU citizens need a passport that is valid for at least 6 months beyond the return date and contains more than two free pages. A visa is not required. The exact conditions must be checked again before departure.

Insurance

We strongly advise you to purchase insurance for cancellation and return journey costs, which will be needed in the event of a secluded region being evacuated, a local hospital stay or return travel costs to your home country.
