Iceland is famous for its wild landscapes. The island is full of impressive photo motives. On this photo tour Iceland we will take you to the classic highlights in the south. Photograph iconic waterfalls, picturesque ice lagoons and impressive mountain panoramas.

On this Iceland photo tour, as on all our tours, we count on local know-how. Our Icelandic guide and qualified photographer Stephan Mantler has been living in Iceland since 2013. Stephan is leading the tour together with the renowned Swiss landscape photographer Fabio Antenore, who has travelled the island many times and knows it very well. Those two will guide you to the most beautiful photo spots at the right times.

The nature in Iceland demands flexibility, as the weather conditions change rapidly. The program is constantly adapted to the conditions in order to get the best out of each day.

From the beginning to the end of the trip, we were accompanied by Jenny and Nick, who were always helpful and friendly. I did not have that much photography experience yet and was able to learn an incredible amount of new things from them during this week. "Street photography starts at the end of your comfort zone" - This was the first sentence of Jens Krauer, course instructor, at the introduction to our course in Amsterdam. How true! During four often long days, we slowly left our comfort zone, hesitant and shy at first, and ventured further and further. Thanks to the skilful methodology and didactics of Jens, who confronted us daily with ever new, ever more challenging tasks, we gained confidence and self-assurance. By the end, we had grasped the essence of street photography and were already able to take some beautiful shots. Jens was an excellent and patient teacher who had brought us considerably further in terms of image composition and creativity. I really got an appetite for street photography after the course!

In April 2022, I was on the photo expedition around Svalbard with my husband on the M/S Virgo. An absolutely extraordinary journey with great impressions of a fantastic Arctic and touching wildlife encounters that we will not forget for a long time. We think especially of the Zodiac trip lasting several hours, on which we were able to experience very relaxed and also curious polar bear, the great light moods in the evening and night hours, but also the trips with walrus encounters during snowfall in the backlight, which bathed the flakes in an organ-coloured light and conjured up a very special mood in the picture. We even had the opportunity to drive to the pack ice edge and do an excursion on the pack ice, which is probably not an everyday experience. A big thank you goes to Jenny and Daisy for the excellent supervision. They always had an open ear for the participants, questions were always gladly answered and fun was never neglected. The M/S Virgo is an absolutely brilliant "starting point" for photo expeditions, as everything is very well adapted to the needs of photographers. Another plus point were the guides / Zodiac drivers, who are also professional photographers and always knew how to approach destinations in such a way that everyone has the opportunity to take home their photos of the spots / wildlife. This was completed by lectures during the trip and by the spontaneity of the crew. If necessary, the route was even changed several times a day, just as it was best for the participants. As I participated the trip as a photographer and my husband accompanied the trip as a non-photographer, we were initially sceptical about what it would be like for a partner travelling with a group of photographers. We were very pleasantly surprised, he was very well integrated by Jenny, Daisy, the guides and the fellow travellers and certainly had as much fun as I did. We think back to the trip very often and always say to ourselves "What all we were able to experience there".... Thank you again!

I have been dreaming of the Milky Way on the Teide and perfect pictures of it for several years. Now my dream was more than fulfilled thanks to the great trip with Amazing View, which offered much more than "just" the Teide. It was simply a perfectly organised trip with Jenny and Fabio looking after all the participants, which was top class. I have never seen guides unpack their cameras first then when all participants have found a very good position for their picture. Even if it took a while, they supported, helped and waited patiently until all participants* were placed. In difficult terrain Jenny and Fabio were always there to help the weaker ones overcome their fears or find a firm footing. Simply great this continuous support! Photographically, the trip was a poem of superlatives. The photographic themes were wide-ranging and so there was enough time for everyone to photograph the different themes in the best possible way. Then there was Fabio Antenore. He was not only the workshop leader but also an extremely likeable companion and comrade with a great sense of humour. He imparted his knowledge about timeblending with great joy and thus introduced us - not only the enthusiasts among us - to the subject with great skills. And also our knowledge grew daily almost without us noticing. Will I go on a trip with Fabio and Amazing Views again? Yes, anytime anywhere! Thank you Jenny and Fabio for this wonderful adventure.

I had a dream; to see and photograph a polar bear in the wild once in my life. So I set out on this adventure with Amazing Views. What I experienced is unsurpassable: accompanying and photographing a polar bear in the Zodic....it was a magical moment that turned into hours!!!! In addition I also had the chance to photograph walruses, sea lions and beautiful landscapes. Like all tours with Amazing Views, this tour was perfectly organised. We were super well looked after by Jenny and Daisy, who had endless time and patience for us, not only when taking pictures, but also when editing them. The ship (the MS Virgo) is ideal for photographers. The newly renovated rooms are very nice and functional with plenty of space for all the winter clothes. But the hammer is the lounge, which is ideally suited to our needs. Enough space for everyone with their laptops, power sockets everywhere, a big TV for picture meetings and presentations, and always enough pastries to keep our lines in shape. The Zodiac drivers were also responsible for scanning the horizon literally around the clock for interesting wildlife. The fact that these two are also full-time professional photographers was of course great, as it meant we were looked after even better and they also knew exactly how to position the Zodiac so that everyone got their picture. All in all, this trip easily exceeded our expectations.

The photo tour "Wild Scotland" has the right name. We experienced a week with weather typical for this region. Overcast skies, sunshine in between, dense fog in the mountains and short heavy rain showers with strong winds. It was a good opportunity to test out the waterproof and windproof clothing. The tour was well organised and everything worked well. Ralf led the tour prudently with a lot of humour, constantly coordinating with Nick, the local photographer, in choosing the next photo stop. They reacted flexibly to the changing weather. Both supported the participants very well in photo-technical questions and Nick, thanks to his very good local knowledge, was able to draw our attention to small details in the composition of the picture. The photo tour is recommended for photographers who want to experience the wild nature of Scotland and especially the beautiful Isle of Skye.

The photo tour on Lewis and Harris was simply great. The lodge on a secluded inlet was unique. Three ladies spoiled us with local specialities from the sea and from their own garden. The photo spots were varied, from Caribbean beaches to picturesque cliffs to abandoned houses. The supervision by Jenny, even apart from the photography, was super, she took care of everyone and everything. The mixed group of participants rounded it all off and so I spent an unforgettable week on the island. I was very satisfied with the photo tour guides. We didn't have to worry about anything. We visited impressive waterfalls, barren rocky landscapes, black beaches, glaciers, a volcano (which unfortunately only smoked a bit but didn't spit fire at that moment), Icelandic horses, etc., etc.. We had great experiences with a total of 8 bears over three days - a good yield, considering that the bears do not appear at the push of a button! Thomas was a confident guide and the atmosphere among us participants was good and relaxed. Slovenianbears did a good job of organising the bear afternoons in the Hides. We had to bring the patience ourselves.... I liked the accommodation at Ana's, the food was good and plentiful. I found the excursions in the morning (underground lake, caves etc.) interesting, they gave us a good insight into the region (only the eagle owls didn't want to show up despite digital calls). It was my first tour with Amazing Views (and not my last). As a fan of wildlife photography, I got my money's worth. It was fascinating to observe the wild bears in the wild. Thomas' technical support was a great help for me as a beginner, and the exchange with the other members of the group was also extremely helpful. To liven up the week, we also visited a cave and were able to use our skills there under difficult lighting conditions. Very suitably selected hotels with very good Scottish cuisine including local specialities such as haggis. Day 1 – Arrival to Iceland

You travel to Keflavík individually. Meeting point is at Keflavík airport during the afternoon (please arrange your arrival time with us in advance).
Afterwards you will be driven with a comfortable minibus along the ring road towards the east, to our first destination. The road leads past lush green pastures and dramatic coastlines. Later you will check in at the hotel near the famous Skógafoss.
Already on the first evening you will visit a first highlight of this photo tour. You will have a chance to take pictures by a small, enchanting waterfall not far from our hotel.
Due to the small group size we can optimally respond to your individual needs and discuss photographic topics of your choice and put them into practice immediately (e.g. long-time exposures, use of filters etc.).

Day 2 – A Waterfall Paradise

Today you will spend the day in the region around the Skógafoss. The mighty waterfall can be seen from far away from the road. The 60-meter-high and 25-meter-wide waterfall falls from the former steep coast and is the undeniable highlight of this region. It is the perfect place to experiment with photographing fast flowing water and capture great long-time exposures.
The exact day program will be arranged on site at short notice to suit the weather and light conditions. You will be out and about especially during sunrise and sunset.

Day 3 – From the Sea to the Highlands

In the morning you will have a chance to photograph the sunrise at the fantastic beach of Vik. Because of its bizarre scenery, the beach is one of the most beautiful in Europe. Pointed rock needles rise high out of the wild sea. The sand on the beach shimmers in deep black. In the background, there is a basalt columnar cave.
Afterwards you will return to the hotel, where a delicious breakfast awaits you. Later you will continue along the ring road towards east to our hotel in Kirkjubæjarklaustur.
Later in the afternoon you will go for an excursion to the highlands. You will drive with a 4x4 over bumpy tracks and through fords into a bizarrely beautiful landscape. Our destination is a still less known waterfall off the beaten track. The waterfall plunges over basalt columns into a river in the middle of an enchanting landscape characterized by rich green colours and volcanic rock faces.

Day 4 to 5 – Majestic Mountains and Icelandic Horses

Before breakfast we have an impressive gorge on the program. You will take pictures in a colourful rock landscape and breath-taking scenery.
Afterwards the journey continues into the surroundings of Höfn. Here you will spend the night in the immediate vicinity of the majestic Vestrahorn on the Stokksnes Peninsula. We deliberately allow ourselves some time in this area. The Vestrahorn impresses with its steeply rising peaks and offers numerous opportunities for spectacular landscape shots.
During our stay in Stokksnes you will also have a unique opportunity to photograph the local Icelandic horses. The peaceful horses provide great photo opportunities in the middle of the rugged Icelandic landscape. In case the weather is not playing along, or during breaks, you will have opportunity to participate in individual photo discussions or photo editing sessions.

Day 6 – Icelands Diamonds

Today we are slowly heading back to the west. Our next destination is Jökulsárlón with its glittering glacier lagoon and the sparkling diamonds of ice on the sandy beach. In the lagoon icebergs break off the glacier tongue again and again, and then drift across the lagoon into the open sea. The ice chunks are then washed back onto the beach where they sparkle like diamonds or crystals on the black sandy beach. No chunks of ice are like the other and wonderful pictures are captured.

Day 7 – Slowly heading back to the West

Today you will have a chance again to photograph the sunrise in the surroundings. Afterwards you will enjoy a break.
Depending on the weather we will have an early dinner on the way. At sunset you will take pictures at Seljalandfoss. The spectacular waterfall plunges over a steep rock face and you will have opportunity to walk behind the water curtain. Afterwards you will be driven directly to Keflavík where you check in at a hotel near the airport.

Day 8 – End of Photo Tour

Today the photo tour ends, and it is time to say goodbye to Iceland. Most flights leave during the morning from Keflavik. From our hotel you can reach the airport with a fast and comfortable transfer. You will return home luggage full of wonderful memories and impressive photos.

Accommodation

During the Iceland photo tour, you will stay in good hotels, which offer all amenities.

Skógafoss

Our hotel is located in the immediate vicinity of the famous waterfall. It has a restaurant and rooms with shower/WC and free WLAN.

Kirkjubæjarklaustur

You will stay in a family run hotel just outside Kirkjubæjarklaustur. The hotel is situated on a hilly location and from the terrace you can enjoy a view of the landscape. The rooms have their own bathroom, coffee/tea facilities and a TV.

Stokksnes

Our accommodation is located away from civilization on the Stokksnes peninsula. Here you will stay overnight in the immediate vicinity of the imposing Vestrahorn. All rooms have a private bathroom with shower.

Jökulsárlón

Our hotel is located not far from the Ringstrasse and offers a wonderful views over the Atlantic Ocean or the glacier. The glacier lagoon Jökulsárlón is only a few minutes’ drive from the hotel. All rooms have a private bathroom and a desk.

Keflavík

The hotel offers a restaurant, bar and 24-hour reception and is only 5 km from the airport (airport transfer is available). The rooms are equipped with private bathroom, flat screen satellite TV, refrigerator, electric kettle, shower, hair dryer and desk.

Climate and weather

Thanks to the Gulf Stream, Iceland has a moderate climate with cool summers and relatively mild winters. The weather is changeable, so it is recommended to be prepared for all types of weather.

Fitness level

The tour has no special requirement. We will do short hikes to the photo locations. You should be fit enough to participate in these hikes. Individual photo locations may be a little exposed. However, if you are afraid of heights there is always a possibility to take pictures from a little further back.

Course of action of the photo tour

We will put together the exact day's programme on site at short notice in order to consider the weather and lighting conditions. In order to be able to take pictures at the right time with the right light in the golden and blue hours, we will be outdoors especially at sunrise and sunset times. In between, during noon or in the afternoon, you will have free time to rest a little, explore the surroundings or, if you wish, take part in picture reviews and tutorials.

Sunrise / Sunset

During the photo trip the sunrise takes place at about 6:00 am and the sunset at about 8:30 pm.

Double room

Single travellers can book half of a double room. If there is no other guest who wants to share the room, the single room surcharge will apply.

Entry requirements Iceland

Citizens from EU countries, the Schengen area and Switzerland require a valid passport or identity card, which must be valid for at least three months after the planned date of departure.

Insurance

We strongly advise you to purchase insurance for cancellation and return journey costs, which will be needed in the event of a secluded region being evacuated, a local hospital stay or return travel costs to your home country.
