Day 1

Around noon, you meet the workshop instructors and the other guests in Zermatt. After a brief introduction that also includes some theory, you take the train up to the Gornergrat.

After an early dinner, you take your first shots at sunset and during twilight. We guide you to the most beautiful photo spots and provide personalized guidance to help you capture stunning photos. If the sky is clear, you can capture fantastic photos of the night sky featuring the Milky Way.

Day 2

Today you set out before sunrise to ensure you are in the right place at the right time. After an extensive photo session in the best light, breakfast is waiting for you back at the hotel. You then head back to Zermatt for a brief theory session and lunch break. In the early afternoon, you make your way to our next accommodation at a mountain lodge.

This afternoon and evening, you once again capture dreamlike photos. With a bit of luck regarding the weather, you get fantastic shots of the Matterhorn reflected in the lake. As soon as it gets dark and the sky is clear, you turn your attention once again to photographing the impressive night sky.

Day 3

You get up early to reach a scenic photo spot before sunrise. You take photos once more in the best light before heading to the mountain lodge for breakfast.

Later, you return to the mountain station for the trip back to Zermatt. The Zermatt photo workshop ends in the alpine village around noon.

For whom is this Photo Workshop Zermatt suitable?

This workshop is designed for both beginners and advanced photographers. You should have a basic understanding of shutter speed, aperture, and ISO.

Fitness

During this workshop, we will hike for about 2 to 3 hours each day while carrying our photography equipment. The hikes are not technically demanding, but may involve some uneven terrain. We recommend wearing well-broken-in hiking boots and bringing hiking poles if needed.

Arrival

Zermatt is a car-free town. By car you have to drive to Täsch (paid parking available at CHF 17/day). From Täsch, the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn takes guests to Zermatt every 20 minutes.

Accommodation

Single and double rooms have been reserved for our group. Single rooms are available in limited quantities. Please select your preferred room category when booking.

Half double room

Single travelers can book half a double room. If no other guest signs up to share the room, a single room supplement will apply.

Recommended camera equipment

• A camera with manual settings option
• For this workshop we recommend lenses, that cover the range of 14-200mm (Full frame equivalent)
• Tripod
• Filters (if available) – we will also have 1-2 filter setts in the usual sizes on site to try out
• Remote shutter release (if available)

Clothing

The weather can change quickly in the mountains. We therefore recommend wearing appropriate clothing—ideally in layers—including a rain jacket and rain pants, as well as sturdy hiking boots.

Weather

This workshop takes place in any weather. Even if the weather is cloudy or rainy, there are often exciting subjects to photograph. In case of bad weather we will focus more on theory. For the possible photography of natural phenomena like the starry sky, suitable weather conditions (e.g. clear sky) are required. This cannot be guaranteed.
