Day 1 – Arrival in Botswana

After crossing the border at Pont Drift or arriving at the airport, the lodge ranger will be waiting for you. After a short drive you will reach the lodge, where you will check into your room. You have the following individual options for travelling to the lodge:

• Inlandflug ab Johannesburg zum Limpopo Valley Airport (ca. CHF 1’700 für Hin- und Rückflug, Stand 01.2025). • Road transfer from Johannesburg to Pont Drift
• Own journey by rental car to Pont Drift

In the late afternoon, you will meet your tour guide and set off on your first game drive. With a bit of luck, we will already find the first animals and start taking photos.

Day 2 – 6 – In the middle of the action

The private reserve in the south of Botswana is very varied in landscape and has a great richness of animals. Since we are in a private area, the vehicles are allowed to drive off-road to offer you the best perspectives for taking pictures. The area is known for regular sightings of leopards, cheetahs and lions. We will take photographs from hides. With a bit of luck, you’ll be able to take spectacular shots from unique angles. In addition to the normal session in the hide, you will spend a night in the unique and fully equipped Sleepout Hide.

Your photo guide Hannes Lochner is always available to you for useful tips and tricks. Between game drives, you can relax in the camp. Depending on your wishes and needs, Hannes offers short tutorials on different areas of photography. Of course, he also discusses with you about already captured photos and helps you to shoot even better pictures during the next game drive.

Spend the night in the Sleepout Hide for even more spectacular photos

This photo safari includes one photo session in the underground hide and one overnight stay in a unique Sleepout Hide. This allows you a special intimate encounter with the African wilderness and exceptional photos.

In collaboration with a renowned professional photographer, the lodge has created another innovative hide that is unobtrusively integrated into the landscape. This special hideaway can accommodate up to four photographers offering two bedrooms, a small kitchen, a lounge, a dining area and a full bathroom with shower. There is a separate bedroom for the photo guide and even an outdoor patio for relaxation without disturbing the animals. The hide session starts in the afternoon and lasts until the next morning. Meals are delivered directly to the hide.

This Overnight Hide overlooks a waterhole that is a popular destination for wildlife. In the hide, you are at eye level with the action – sometimes just a few meters away from the animals! Thanks to the unobtrusive lighting around the waterhole, you can capture stunning images day and night. Advanced sensors alert you to nocturnal activity.

Day 7 – End of the photo tour

In the early morning you will go on one last game drive before you are driven back to the border or the airport for your individual journey home or onwards, depending on the option you choose.

Who is the photo tour suitable for

This photo tour is aimed at both beginners and advanced photographers. You have a basic knowledge of shutter speed, aperture and ISO and are be able to set these on your camera. On this photo tour, you will be individually supervised according to your photography skills.

Climate

Temperatures can reach around 40 degrees. The trip takes place during the rainy season. There may be thunderstorms and individual game drives may fail.

Fitness level

The trip does not require any special physical requirements.

Health

For trips to Botswana, malaria prophylaxis tablets and the usual vaccinations are highly recommended. Please consult with a doctor specialising in tropical medicine, or your family doctor. You must take important medication with you from your home country, as there is no guarantee that you will receive the desired medication in Botswana. All important medicines should be carried in your hand luggage.

Half double room

Single travellers can book half of a double room. If there is no other guest who wants to share the room, the single room surcharge will apply.

Insurance

We strongly advise you to purchase insurance for cancellation and return journey costs, which will be needed in the event of a secluded region being evacuated, a local hospital stay or return travel costs to your home country.
