Winter in Patagonia offers a unique opportunity to photograph one of the most spectacular and fascinating regions at an exceptional time of year. The focus of this trip is on photographing pumas in Patagonia. The combination of breathtaking landscapes, soft light and the opportunity to observe one of South America’s most impressive predators in its natural habitat makes this photo tour unique.
We will take you to the best places in Torres del Paine National Park to photograph pumas with a bit of luck. Great pictures always take time, which we have planned for on this trip. The weather in Patagonia is known for its unpredictability at any time of year and often changes very quickly, offering fantastic conditions for photography. Even in July, however, temperatures are usually above zero. Thanks to the lower number of visitors in winter, the animals move more freely and make exciting photos possible. With a bit of luck, the landscape is covered in snow and you can take unique pictures of pumas in the snow.
As on all our photo tours, we also work with a very good local partner in Patagonia. The trip is accompanied by a renowned Chilean photographer who has many years of experience with photo trips in the region. She previously worked as a guide in Torres del Paine National Park and as a puma tracker. Benefit from the knowledge of the best spots, the weather and the behaviour of the pumas that only locals can have.
On this puma photo tour in winter, we will take you to the best photo spots in Patagonia so that you can take great photos of the fascinating wildlife and landscape.

The definitive tour price is usually available 12 – 15 months before the start of the tour.

Great and varied photo tour through Namibia with a variety of photo spots and motifs. Brilliant support from Hannes Lochner. He accompanied us professionally and confidently throughout the entire trip and was always present and available for individual support. It could hardly have been better!
We had to wait a long time before we could finally travel to Patagonia. But it was worth it in every respect. What an incredible 10 days we experienced in this unique landscape! Perfectly guided by Thomas Brühlmann, Cristina Harboe and the other local guides, we were able to let off steam photographically. But the highlight was definitely the 3 days of puma tracking. Here we were able to benefit from Rodrigo Moraga's many years of knowledge and photograph the animals at almost arm's length. I would love to go there again right away!
We meet at the airport in Puna Arenas (please enquire about the recommended flight connection). On arrival, you will travel to our accommodation in a comfortable van.
At dinner you will get to know your Puma Tracker. There will be an introduction to puma tracking behaviour and helpful tips for wildlife photography.
We spend the next few days looking for, observing and photographing pumas. The remote Torres del Paine National Park is home to many endemic animal species. In addition to the pumas, you also have a good chance of seeing guanacos and, with a bit of luck, foxes. The region is considered one of the best places to observe pumas in the wild. The density of pumas is particularly high here, not least due to the high and healthy population of guanacos.
Our trackers take us to the right places. Smaller hikes may be necessary. After numerous great photo experiences with the pumas, you will return to the hotel in the evening.
After breakfast, you check out of the hotel. You will then be transferred back to Punta Arenas. You will make numerous photo stops on the way.
After breakfast and check-out, you will drive to the airport in Punta Arenas for the domestic flight to Santiago de Chile.
On this Patagonia photo tour, you will stay in comfortable accommodation in Chile that is ideally located for the photo spots.
The hotel is beautifully situated in the middle of the “pampas” of Patagonia in the immediate vicinity of the Torres del Paine National Park. The hotel is rustic and cosily furnished. The rooms are comfortably designed and offer a nice bathroom. There is a restaurant and free wifi in the hotel.
This mid-range hotel is centrally located in Punta Arenas, directly on the shore of the Strait of Magellan with a great view of the Pacific Ocean. The rooms are comfortably furnished and have a bathroom, TV and sitting area. The restaurant serves traditional dishes. There is a bar, a fitness room, an indoor pool and a sauna.

The weather in Patagonia can be very changeable. In order to get the most out of the photo trip, we will adjust the exact daily program on site according to the local weather conditions. In case of bad weather conditions, it is possible that individual program points will be changed. Flexibility is a prerequisite for this Patagonia photo trip.
Patagonia is located in the southern hemisphere of the earth and therefore has seasons that are the opposite of those in Central Europe.
Depending on the weather conditions, temperatures in July generally range between approx. 0 and approx. 3 degrees Celsius. Rain, snow and strong winds are also to be expected.
The weather in Patagonia is known for its unpredictability and often changes very quickly.
This photo trip is outdoor orientated and we will spend a lot of time outdoors in nature. Among other things, we will be out and about, especially at sunrise and sunset. You should be prepared for cold, rain, wind and even snow. It is therefore important that you dress warmly enough and feel comfortable outdoors even in the wind and cold.
You enjoy spending time in nature and are willing to move around with your camera gear, even on uneven terrain. The focus is on photography; accordingly, we will be out and about at specific times of day when the lighting conditions are optimal.
Hikes to scenic destinations and puma tracking excursions can take about 3–4 hours, depending on the situation, and sometimes involve walking over uneven, hilly terrain. You should therefore be in good physical condition and fit enough to cover longer distances and carry your photography equipment safely.
The exact program will be determined flexibly on site according to the current weather conditions.
