The Pantanal Conservation Area, one of the world’s largest freshwater wetland ecosystems, is located in western central Brazil (state of Mato Grosso). It is so rich in biodiversity that UNESCO declared it as a biosphere reserve. July is an excellent month to visit the Pantanal. During the dry season there are excellent chances to observe and photograph different animals and birds. Jaguars are on our focus, but also anteaters, caimans or macaws can be photographed with a bit of luck. To make sure that we can get you into the best positions to photograph, we use small agile speedboats with enough space for each guest.
This trip is accompanied by an excellent local photographer. He has great experience in the Pantanal and knows the region very well. He is also very happy to pass on his photography know-how to the participants.
Therefore, great photo opportunities in nature await you on this trip to Brazil and as always with Amazing Views you will be guided also in the Pantanal to the most beautiful photo locations at the best time and unique animal experiences.

On the Pantanal trip in July 2023, the biodiversity impressed me the most. The jaguars were great, lying in wait for caimans along the rivers and swimming across the river in front of us. Beautiful animals! But also impressive were the giant otters, which even put a jaguar to flight. We also encountered a swimming tapir. The many bird species - kingfishers, herons, giant storks, hawks, cormorants, etc. - always offered great motifs. - offered great motifs again and again. We were competently accompanied by Thomas and Marcos, who shared a lot of his knowledge about the animals with us. Everything was well organised. A rewarding trip!
The expectations of travelling with Amazing Views are high and were fully met.
A fantastic trip with great participants and lots of fun times that we were able to spend together. The many bird and animal sightings in the best light will remain unforgettable. The highlights were the extraordinary number of jaguar sightings in Porto Jofre and the fantastic landscape at sunrise. The first night in Baiazinha, where we all shivered like castle dogs from the cold, was also unforgettable. Many thanks to Thomas, Marcos, the local guide, and the boat drivers who made it all possible.
You travel individually to Cuiabá, the gateway to the Pantanal. We meet in the late afternoon for an introduction and then for dinner together.
We will be happy to advise you on suitable flight connections for your journey to Brazil.
After breakfast, our journey starts towards the Taiamã Reserve. You will drive through an idyllic landscape, which in some places is reminiscent of African savannahs. In the course of the day you will reach the first destination in the north of the Pantanal. Our accommodation is beautifully situated directly on the Paraguay River.
You will spend two full days in the Paraguay River region near the Taiamã Reserve searching for jaguars, giant river otters and other wildlife. The nature along the river is a paradise, both scenically and from the biodiversity of animals and birds. Here you can enjoy the silence and unique sounds of the Pantanal. You will travel by speedboat. For our group we use small boats with enough space for each guest. This ensures that we are manoeuvrable and can also navigate small canals. You benefit from the best possible conditions for taking pictures.
After breakfast we check out and drive to today’s destination, a private nature reserve on a former farm. The last part is on the famous Transpantaneira. A lonely gravel road which ends after 147 km at the border to the federal state Mato Grosso do Sul in Porto Jofre.
Our accommodation today is located at the beginning of the Transpantaneira and on the way there we have already good chances to photograph wild animals and birds. In the late afternoon we take a small hike or game drive on the surroundings of our lodge to search and photograph wildlife.
We will spend a whole day on the surroundings of the former farm. There are excellent opportunities to photograph birdlife and animals such as tapirs, caimans and more, from close and in the best light. The landscape is characterised by ponds, forests and meadows. The area is considered as one of the best ones for observing the big anteaters. With some luck we can observe many bird species, foxes or even other animals straight from the veranda of our accommodation.
After another photo session on the huge surroundings of our lodge we drive further to our next destination in Transpantaneira. We will have the opportunity to take pictures during the trip, depending on wildlife sightings. After our arrival in Porto Jofre we will check in at the hotel, which is located directly at the Cuiabá river. It is the perfect base to reach the” Meeting of the Waters State Park”, the Kingdom of Jaguars, by speedboat. Already on the surroundings of the lodge you have unique opportunities to photograph the birdlife, including toucans and hyacinth macaws.
We have four full days to observe and photograph jaguars and other wildlife. We will be travelling with experienced guides who will take us into the best positions to photograph.
From the lodge we will go on a Jaguar game drive in the morning and afternoon with speedboats in the nearby “Meeting of the Waters State Park”. The park is considered as one of the world’s best regions for watching jaguars in the wild. The area is the confluence of three rivers and is an ideal habitat for a rich variety of species. As this region is virtually uninhabited and completely isolated, it is the perfect place for observing the jaguars. The elegant cats often come to the banks of the rivers to drink, hunt or simply cool off a bit.
After breakfast, we will go on a last safari by speedboat. We will then return to our accommodation for lunch.
Afterwards, we check out in Porto Jofre and set off for Cuiabá. Our journey takes us along the Transpantaneira. We have plenty of time to drive along Brazil’s wild highway and make frequent photo spots along the way to capture the beauty of the biodiverse region.
In the evening we reach Cuiabá and check into the hotel. Afterwards dinner together.
In the morning we will drive to Cuiabá airport, from where you can fly back to São Paolo. Afterwards you start your journey home or your individual itinerary.
We use comfortable and functional accommodation. These are ideally located for the respective activities and game drives.
The accommodation in Cuiabá is a modern and luxurious hotel, located in a prime location in Cuiabá. The rooms are generously designed and comfortably furnished. They feature a seating area, a flat-screen TV, air conditioning and en suite bathrooms. The hotel also offers a restaurant, bar, gym and rooftop pool.
A former farm converted into a small hotel by the local family. The spacious rooms are equipped with camera units, TV and minibar. A pool with sun loungers, a restaurant, a lounge and terraces with comfortable seating and hammocks are available for the rest periods between the excursions.
The lodge is embedded in a beautiful landscape. The spacious rooms have bathrooms and air conditioning. A beautiful garden with pool and covered terrace offering wonderful views for the surrounding landscapes. The farm grounds are well known for their biodiversity. Even from your veranda, you have good chances to observe wildlife such as birds, foxes and other animal species.
The hotel is located directly on the Cuiabá River and has simple but spacious rooms. All rooms have air conditioning, bathroom, TV. There is a beautiful garden with pool and lake on the lodge grounds and you can often observe toucans and hyacinth macaws here.
The journey starts and ends in Cuiabá. Due to jet lag, we recommend travelling at least one day earlier. We will be happy to organise a suitable flight offer for you.
The Pantanal is located in the southern hemisphere of the world and therefore has seasons that are opposite to those of central Europe. But as the temperatures do not differ too much in the course of the year, the year is mostly divided into dry and rainy seasons. The rainiest months are October to April and from May to September is the dry season. Due to the tropical climate in the Pantanal there are hot temperatures all year round and the weather can seem very humid. During the dry season the weather in the Pantanal is very warm but quite dry. The average rainfall during this time is only 0 to 50mm rain per month. The daily maximum temperatures average 30 to 32 degrees. During the dry season, however, it can occasionally get a little cooler, especially if a cold front moves north from Antarctica. Especially at night it can cool down considerably. The daily minimum temperatures average 16 to 21 degrees.
The trip does not require any special physical requirements.
The Pantanal is a malaria-free area. A yellow fever vaccination is strongly recommended. Please consult a tropical doctor, tropical institute or your family doctor. It is always important to protect yourself sufficiently against mosquito bites: Long, light-coloured clothing and the application of insect repellent are recommended. Most hotel rooms have windows with mosquito nets.
Single travellers can book half of a double room. If there is no other guest who wants to share the room, the single room surcharge will apply.
We strongly advise you to purchase insurance for cancellation and return journey costs, which will be needed in the event of a secluded region being evacuated, a local hospital stay or return travel costs to your home country.
The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) regularly publishes information on countries where there are potential security or other risks. The FDFA’s travel advice is based on its own sources of information that are considered to be trustworthy. This travel advice can be found on the FDFA website: www.eda.admin.ch
