My fifth trip to the Outer Hebrides with Amazing Views has once again confirmed that the overall package on offer (photo spots, hotel, local guide, a perfect group and, last but not least, Jenny as ‘tour guide’) is hard to beat. Starting with the comprehensive information before the trip, the daily organisation of the photo spots, which were not easy thanks to the local guide, also because of the constantly changing weather conditions, the persistent and always available support from Jenny and Nick, the comfortable and safe transport from the hotel to the photo spots to the hotel itself (ambience and cuisine), this trip is a very special experience.
It was my first photo trip and definitely not the last! It was an unforgettable experience for me. From the beginning to the end of the trip, we were accompanied by Jenny and Nick, who were always helpful and friendly. I didn't have that much photography experience and was able to learn a lot of new things from them during the week. They were able to pass on their photographic knowledge to me in an understandable way. With their help, I was able to achieve the goals I had set myself before the trip. Our accommodation also left nothing to be desired! In my opinion, the fantastic dinner that we enjoyed every evening deserves a special mention! I find what the three ladies conjured up in the kitchen every day incredible. I looked forward to ending the day with the whole group and good food every evening. My conclusion: It was worth every cent and I would book another trip with Amazing Views in a heartbeat!
This photo trip was top in all respects - the guides, the food, the locations, the group. What more could you want?
Great photo locations on the island west of Scotland. Wonderful accommodation and perfect organisation by Amazing Views. Jennifer on site took care of everything the traveller could wish for. Nick the great local guide showed us the coolest locations in all weathers. Definitely a trip to recommend.
Thanks to the great all-round organisation and perfect local and weather knowledge of Jenny and Nick, it was a varied trip in a fascinating landscape! Always in the best place on the islands at the right time, always competent and helpful with questions about everything from photography to image processing, perfect group size and including a culinary pampering programme - what more could you want? Thank you for this great experience! I look back fondly on the eventful and varied days with my impressive pictures. The islands are definitely worth a visit!
Thanks to the perfect photo guide with great knowledge of the location and weather, we were always in the right place at the right time and used the changing weather to our advantage. Epic locations and capricious weather made for great pictures and great experiences with thrills. The professional support and the ideal group size rounded off the harmonious overall package.
We meet at Stornoway Airport. We will be happy to give you the appropriate flight connection for your arrival time. Here we are met by our Scottish photo guide. The journey in a comfortable van takes us directly to our lodge in an idyllic location in Lewis.
The accommodation in the historic building of our Highland Lodge is very special and the perfect place for our photo retreat. We have rented the lodge exclusively for our group for a cosy and intimate setting. It is the perfect retreat from everyday life.
Harris and Lewis are not two separate islands. A raw and impassable mountain range separates the southern part (Harris) from the northern part (Lewis). In the past, the easiest way between the two parts of the island was by boat and therefore, two separate cultures were formed.
We will depart every day directly from the lodge to the various photo locations on Harris and Lewis. Depending on the weather we will take photographs 3-4 hours in the early morning for the sunrise and in the evening for the sundown when the light is best. If there are nice light conditions during the day, we will also go outside to hunt for photo motifs.
The Outer Hebrides are a dream for anyone who likes to photograph landscapes. There are countless photo opportunities. We will put together the exact day program on site to be able to respond to the respective weather and light conditions. Our photo guide will bring you to the most beautiful photo locations. He knows the islands of the Inner and Outer Hebrides like no one else.
Between photo sessions and in the evenings, there is time to meet with your travel companions, photo discussions or relaxation in front of the crackling peat fire. The cosy common rooms of our lodge provide the ideal setting for these activities.
Meals are also special on this photography trip. Breakfast and dinner are served at the long table in the lodge’s traditionally decorated dining room. At lunch time, we eat lovingly prepared packed lunches. All meals are freshly cooked and prepared mainly from regional ingredients. On this trip you will intensively enjoy Scottish delicacies. Enjoy the delicious three-course meals that are served every evening together with a fine glass of wine. For the little hunger in between, we also have the pantry at our disposal, where we can stock up on snacks and drinks at any time.
In the morning the photo tour ends at the Stornoway Airport. From here you start your individual home or onward journey.
If you need an overnight stay in Edinburgh on the return journey from Stornoway, we will gladly organize it for you.
As the base for this special photo retreat we have chosen a beautiful Highland Lodge in an idyllic location. This accommodation is rented exclusively for our group. The lodge is privately owned and situated in the middle of an unspoilt, impressive coastal landscape, far away from civilisation. The manor house was built over 100 years ago and has been preserved in its original style. The lodge’s natural surroundings invite you to go for walks and it is not unusual to come across red deers or the ponies that live here. In the morning you will certainly be woken up by the twittering of birds or the call of the cuckoo.
Each guest has his or her own room and there is no single supplement on this trip. Several bathrooms and showers are available on different floors. In addition to the bedrooms, the lodge has various living rooms and lounges with fireplaces. Depending on the weather, you can enjoy a typical open fire with turf here. Wireless internet, a billiard room and a fitness room are also available.
The friendly staff of the lodge will take care of your well-being during your stay and spoil you with delicious meals. The food is not just full board on this trip, but a real treat. All meals and drinks are included on this photo retreat. The homemade delicacies and local dishes are preferably cooked from regional products. For example, fresh fish and shellfish come directly from the sea in front of the lodge, the eggs come from their own chickens and the vegetables from their own garden. Breakfast and the 3-course dinner are served in the atmospheric dining room. For lunch, you can put together your own individual packed lunch from a buffet.
It is likely that you will experience four seasons in one day in Scotland. These rapidly changing weather conditions are precisely what makes photographing these landscapes so very exciting. Fantastic lighting effects occur and the resulting shots are instantly much more dramatic.
The month of March is an excellent time to explore the Hebrides. On the one hand the weather is changing every hour, which can create fantastic light conditions and on the other hand sunrise and sunset take place at very pleasant times. The temperatures during the day are between 5 – 8 degrees. In March there are no mosquitoes and midges and you can take pictures without being disturbed.
The tour is not particularly physically demanding. Short walks are required to reach the photo locations. The hiking trails in Scotland (if they exist at all) can sometimes be uneven or boggy as they usually cross moorland and heathland.
In order that you can capture photos at the right time with the right light during the early hours and twilight, we will be out and about for around four hours particularly around the hours of sunrise and sunset. You then have some time available during the morning and afternoon to rest, catch up on sleep, explore the surrounding area or take part in image critiques and tutorials if you so wish.
Single travellers can book half of a double room. If there is no other guest who wants to share the room, the single room surcharge will apply.
We strongly advise you to purchase insurance for cancellation and return journey costs, which will be needed in the event of a secluded region being evacuated, a local hospital stay or return travel costs to your home country.
