The Masai Mara is one of Africa’s most famous wildlife areas. The region is famous for regular and spectacular animal sightings. On the Masai Mara Explorer photo tour you have very good chances to photograph big cats like lions, leopards or cheetahs, among others. This photo tour is pure Africa! Look forward to great wildlife sightings, a picture-perfect African savannah landscape and breathtaking sunrises and sunsets.
On this photo safari, you will visit two private concessions directly adjacent to the Masai Mara National Park. Private concessions have the advantage that the number of safari vehicles and lodges is strictly limited. These are the best conditions for observing and photographing the animals from the front row. In addition, the guides in the private concessions are also allowed to drive off the road. So you can get very close to the animals!
This tour is conducted in an exclusive small group with only three guests. An unforgettable experience and individual attention are guaranteed.

The photo tour to Zimbabwe is magnificent! Unique experiences with wildlife at close quarters are guaranteed in Hwange and Mana Pools National Park. The accommodation is all in great locations and the service in the lodges/camps is excellent. Thomas and Hannes looked after us very well and also gave us lots of photographic tips so that our photos were real highlights. In the free time between the game drives we were also able to benefit from them when editing our photos. Thank you very much!
The careful selection of locations/lodges and the extremely knowledgeable and professional local guide made the trip through parts of Botswana a real highlight. The photographer James Clifford knows the places and positions where the animals can be put in the right light and imparts a lot of interesting information about the nature and behaviour of the animals in this unique environment. I returned home with many great pictures and numerous unique impressions.
The photo tour ‘Botswana up close’ exceeded all my expectations. I was able to experience and photograph countless unforgettable moments. Hannes' professional guidance was brilliant. Everything ‘around’ with a super lodge, extremely good safari guides and the cosy group made this trip the perfect experience. Thank you. Can only recommend this to everyone.
It was my first photo trip to Africa. The diverse - and, thanks to the driving skills of the guides, close-up - encounters in the private game reserve were impressive: leopards, cheetahs, lions, hyenas, jackals, elephants, giraffes, antelopes, zebras, monkeys, bee-eaters, eagles, vultures and much more. We also had an excellent photo guide with us in Hannes Lochner, who was able to share a lot of his experiences with us. That makes you want more!
I was able to travel to the south of Botswana with Amazing Views in October 2021. The game reserve in the Tuli Block surprised us with unique sightings. In addition to lions, elephants and a wild cat with its cub, we were able to enjoy several leopard sightings. Playful in the flowering Raintree, having fun with a feather, sneaking up on a prey - nothing was missing. Not forgetting the exciting ‘sessions’ in the Hide. Thank you Thomas and Hannes, it was a pure pleasure to be able to share these experiences with you.
A great trip to my absolute dream area in southern Africa. Nice people, relaxed atmosphere and wonderful and exciting animal sightings. Walking safaris with safe guides and unimagined photographic opportunities. I will never forget spending an afternoon up close to dozens of elephants at the waterhole. Hannes and Thomas are always on hand to help with camera settings and are also happy to discuss problems in camp. Three different destinations, very different but always with infinitely friendly staff who were happy to fulfil our wishes.
You will be picked up at Jomo Kenya International Airport (if booking a flight connection, which we have specified) and afterwards you will have a transfer to the hotel in Nairobi. Enjoy the amenities of the hotel in order to recover from the flight journey.
Today you will have an early start. After breakfast, you will be driven to Wilson Airport. You will fly with a small aircraft to the first Conservancy. The flight takes about 60 minutes. Afterwards you will drive to our camp and check into your room. The camp is excellently situated. The abundance of game in the area is exceptional.
The first game drive will take place in the afternoon. With a little luck you will experience the first great sightings.
We get up early in the morning. After a coffee or tea, the morning game drive begins. Depending on the route and sightings we have breakfast on the way or return to camp.
After the morning game drive, there is ample time for a siesta or photo review if desired.
Later in the afternoon we will go on the second game drive. More great sightings are waiting for you.
The day is rounded off with a delicious dinner in the middle of the bush.
In the morning you will go on a long game drive which ends at the second camp in another Conservancy. On the way you will have the opportunity to photograph the magnificent wildlife of the Masai Mara.
After check-in, a light lunch, and a relaxing siesta, you will embark on the next game drive in the afternoon.
We will again do two game drives per day. With a bit of luck you will photograph the wildlife of the Masai Mara in the best light.
Depending on the departure time, we will do another game drive in the morning. After that it is time to say goodbye. The photo tour ends after the return flight back to Nairobi. Individual travel or flight home.
Cozy middle class hotel with restaurant, pool and free wifi. All rooms have a separate bathroom and air conditioning.
On our photo safari we will visit two of these three camps:
The private concession Mara North, on the northern border of the national park, was established in 2009 and consists of over 300 square kilometres. The Mara North Conservation Area is a significant wildlife and ecosystem corridor.
The lodge is a classic tented camp set amidst magnificent acacia trees in the Mara North Conservancy. All tents overlook a river and offer an intimate and relaxing atmosphere. The camp’s lounge offers breath-taking views of the valley and has comfortable seating and a library. Meals are always enjoyed in the idyllic garden.
Each tent is extremely comfortable and stylishly furnished and protected by mosquito nets. The bathroom has a flush toilet and a hot shower. Guests can make themselves comfortable on their own veranda in arm and deck chairs and enjoy the magnificent views of the natural surroundings.
The Olare Motorogi Conservation Area was established in May 2006 and serves as a prime example of its conservation work involving the local community. The area covers 139 square kilometres. Olare is a leader in sustainable tourism in the Masai Mara. The number of tents per camp is limited to twelve, with each tent guaranteed at least 3 square kilometres of viewing area.
The small camp is situated on a small hilltop under acacia trees in the 30,000 ha Olare Motorgi Conservancy. This private concession has a regulated number of beds with only a few camps. You will benefit from a low number of tourists.
The small and close to nature camp has 6 tents, which are far away from each other and thus guarantee pure privacy. The tents are stylishly and elegantly furnished and have a small lounge area in the front. Each tent has its own spacious bathroom with a traditional bucket shower. This can be filled with hot water at any time on request.
Excellent meals are enjoyed in the beautiful common area. Lunch is often served outside under the trees.
The Naboisho Conservancy is a successful community project to protect the land and wildlife with income from tourism. The conservancy covers an area of 210 square kilometres and has the highest density of giraffes in the Masai Mara ecosystem.
The small camp in this conservancy is situated in a secluded valley amongst acacia trees. It consists of six luxurious tents built on platforms to high ecological standards. Each tent is stylishly furnished and has a desk, a sofa and a bathroom with running solar-heated water.
Excellent food is served in the camp’s restaurant or sometimes outside under the stars. A small spa completes the exclusive offer.
Kenya can be visited all year round. From mid-December to the beginning of March and from the beginning of June to the end of October, Kenya has a dry season. In August / September the climate is pleasant with minimum temperatures around 10 – 15 degrees and maximum temperatures around 20 – 25 degrees. However, it can get very cool at night or early in the morning or in the evening during game drives. We strongly recommend packing a warm jacket / fleece for the game drives.
On domestic flights you benefit from an increased baggage limit. You can take your photo equipment with you without worrying about the usual 15 kg limit per person for checked and hand luggage.
The trip does not require any special physical requirements.
No vaccinations are mandatory, but some are recommended (malaria, yellow fever, etc.). Please seek advice from a tropical doctor, institute or your family doctor. They will provide you with the necessary advice and medication.
We strongly advise you to purchase insurance for cancellation and return journey costs, which will be needed in the event of a secluded region being evacuated, a local hospital stay or return travel costs to your home country.
