Experience the raw beauty of one of Africa’s last true wilderness areas on our Kalahari Moments Photo Tour. This exclusive photographic journey takes you deep into the largest private Big Five reserve in South Africa, located on the southeastern edge of the Kalahari.

Still considered a destination off the beaten track, the Kalahari enchants with its endless horizons, shimmering red sands, golden winter grass, and dazzling night skies. Its wildlife has uniquely adapted to the arid environment — offering extraordinary photographic opportunities at every turn.

Capture everything from elegant oryx antelope and playful meerkats to the region’s legendary black-maned lions. You may also photograph cheetahs, elephants, rhinos, buffalo, African wild dogs, leopards and perhaps even caracals or African wildcats. The breathtaking landscape itself, vast, wild, and untamed, forms a spectacular backdrop for your images and will leave a lasting impression.

This intimate Kalahari photo tour is limited to a maximum of six guests and is guided by Hannes Lochner, an award-winning wildlife photographer who lived in the Kalahari for six years and knows every corner of its terrain. Under his expert guidance, you will learn to capture the Kalahari’s spirit through your lens.

As usual, a well-organized trip, excellently guided by Hannes Lochner. Magnificent landscapes with stunning color contrasts. On two evenings, we enjoyed an exquisite dinner outdoors under the impressive starry sky. Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kimberley

You travel individually to Kimberley, the capital of the North Cape province of South Africa.

Then check in at the hotel and settle in comfortably.

Day 2: Journey to the Kalahari

After breakfast, a road transfer will take you to the Kalahari.

You reach the Kalahari and check into the main lodge. Enjoy your first sunset and the starry night in this magical landscape.

Day 3 – 4: Exploring the Kalahari

Enjoy early morning and late afternoon game drives, with ample time for photography. Between drives, Hannes offers tutorials, editing sessions, or one-on-one mentoring.

After dinner, Hannes will introduce you to the secrets of night photography if you wish. The starry sky in the Kalahari is breathtaking.

Day 5: Transfer to the Expedition camp

Travel to a comfortable expedition camp, enjoying a scenic picnic en route.

This intimate setting brings you even closer to the wilderness experience.

Day 6 – 7: Intensive Photography Sessions

Continue with two daily game drives, focusing on both wildlife and landscape photography.

Hannes will be on hand for ongoing support, advice and personalized coaching.

Day 8: End of the photo tour

After a final morning drive and breakfast, you drive back to Kimberley for your onward journey.

Accommodation

Hotel in Kimberley

You spend the first night of your photography tour in a boutique hotel in Kimberley. The hotel offers 16 elegantly furnished rooms. Each room features a desk, coffee maker, minibar, safe, flat-screen TV, and a private bathroom with a shower. The hotel’s gourmet restaurant will delight you. You can end the day relaxing by the pool or on the sundowner terrace.

Main Lodge (3 nights)

An elegant retreat featuring two chalets with private en-suite bedrooms, a shared lounge with a fireplace and a pool overlooking a waterhole.

Dine under the stars in the outdoor boma or relax with a drink at the pool bar after a rewarding day of photography.

Expedition Camp (3 nights)

Immerse yourself in the wild at a newly built expedition camp with five spacious tents, each offering comfort and privacy.

This authentic bush experience connects you directly to the soul of the Kalahari.

Good to know

Travel period

September and June (South African winter) bring cool mornings and ideal lighting conditions, with predators being more active during the day.

Half double room

Single travellers can book half of a double room. If there is no other guest who wants to share the room, the single room surcharge will apply.

Insurance

We strongly advise you to purchase insurance for cancellation and return journey costs, which will be needed in the event of a secluded region being evacuated, a local hospital stay or return travel costs to your home country.
