This photo tour takes you to the wild west of Ireland. The counties of Mayo and Galway lie in the heart of the Wild Atlantic Way and enchant with their wild beauty and unforgettable landscapes. The scenery is not comparable to other regions of Ireland and sometimes you almost feel like you are in the Faroe Islands or the Scottish Highlands. The area in the west is characterized by rough and steeply rising cliffs and mountains.
You can expect wide moorland landscapes, spectacular stretches of coast, imposing cliffs and rocky outcrops and lonely bays in County Mayo. And in Connemara, the wild hinterland of the west coast, you can discover barren plateaus, rugged mountain ranges, green meadows, wild streams and picturesque lakes.
For this Ireland photo tour, as for all our tours, we count on local know-how. Our Irish professional landscape photographer Bernard Geraghty knows the island extremely well and will guide you to the best and most beautiful photo spots. Even those that are remote and still an insider tip.
Nature in Ireland demands flexibility as weather conditions can change rapidly. The program will be constantly adapted to the conditions to get the best out of each day.

Although I have already travelled to Ireland a few times, the wild west of the Emerald Isle surprised me with more great spots, which were visited at the best time thanks to the very competent tour guides Jenny and Bernard. Nevertheless, the trip is not set up as a hectic journey criss-crossing the county, but also leaves enough time to relax. I also got to know lots of great cafés again :) ...and that's exactly how I imagined my holiday week would be!
My trip to Ireland, Connemara and Mayo, was my second trip with Amazing Views. This trip was accompanied by Jenny (founder and managing director of Amazing Views) and local photographer Bernard Geraghty. The very harmonious collaboration between the two, their intimate knowledge of the landscapes combined with the local weather conditions and the clear and detailed sharing of their expertise are the basis for a very successful trip. The flawless planning of the journey, local transport, the choice of hotels and lunch/dinner/coffee spots provide a great recreational value. This trip is unique due to the combination of great photo locations and the insight into Irish culture. I will be back next year and will bridge the time in between with workshops in Switzerland.
It was a varied journey that conveyed impressions of Mayo, Achill Island and Connemara. Imposing coastlines, a lighthouse, lonely fishermen's huts, a pier left to decay, (sandy) beaches, a pretty harbour town, stone walls that divide the land and at the same time give a ‘face’ to the lush green meadows with grazing sheep, to name just a few examples. Incidentally, the weather was a sky-blue colour and there was no shortage of rainbows. Bernard, the man on site, made sure that we were in the right place at the right time: Early in the morning by the mirror-smooth lake or at an exciting spot for the sunset, but also in a nice coffee house with really good coffee. Or in a restaurant with fine food. Thanks to Jenny, Bernard and Felix, I'm no longer at war with grey filters and I've acquired a taste for long exposures. I would never have thought. It's wonderful that you can always count on support. Thank you very much for all the suggestions and tips.
The trip was well organised and in my opinion we were always in the right place at the right time. The photo spots were great! Different options were sometimes offered so that everyone could choose the right one. I personally really appreciated that. Our photo guides Ralf and Bernard did a great job! They were always helpful and friendly and drove us safely to our destination, even on the long days. I learnt a lot again! The accommodation was also very comfortable, nothing to complain about. I loved Ireland and would definitely recommend the trip to others. I will certainly be travelling with Amazing Views again next time!
It was a great photo tour in a country that is a little overlooked but offers great scenic opportunities. The guides are very knowledgeable and the places we went to are great. As always, everything is perfectly organized so we only have to focus on taking pictures. Highly recommended.
Individual travel to Ireland. We will meet you at the airport during the morning. Afterwards we will drive west to County Mayo in Belmullet with a comfortable van.
Already on the first evening you will visit one of the many highlights of this photo tour. You will take pictures from one of the most striking vantage points with views of majestic surf cliffs and imposing rock needles washed by foaming waves.
Due to the small size of the group, we can optimally respond to your individual needs and discuss photographic topics of your choice and immediately put them into practice (e.g. long exposures, use of filters, etc.).
In the morning you will photograph the sunrise on a spectacular cliff. More than 250 meters high cliff walls rise here above the floods of the Atlantic Ocean. Afterwards you return to the hotel where a delicious breakfast awaits you.
The region around Belmullet offers a wide selection of varied photo spots. We will take you to the best locations at the best time. If the weather permits, you can also make a detour to Achill Island.
Today we leave early again to photograph the sunrise at a picturesque bay. Our journey continues to the Connemara for a four nights stay. Based in the little village of Leenaun you will visit the highlights of the Connemara. This region is famous for its awesome coastline as well as the beautiful lakes, charming villages, woolly highland sheeps and a fascinating mountain scenery.
You find fantastic photo motifs in a lonely valley in a hilly landscape and a deserted idyllic lake. You can look forward to numerous hidden jewels and delicacies. Here you are still exploring away from the (photo) tourist streams.
The nature in the Connemara will inspire you. Even the famous writer Oscar Wild described the Connemara as “in every way magnificent” and “a savage beauty”.
In the morning we will go out into the nature again for another photo session. Later, you will drive to the last destination of the photo tour, the pretty holiday resort of Lahinch on Liscannnor Bay.
Lahinch is a good starting point for visiting the Cliffs of Moher. The majestic natural attraction is a wonderful photo opportunity. Photograph this dramatic backdrop of sheer cliffs, breathtaking views and diverse wildlife.
Today the photo tour to Ireland ends. You will be driven in time to Dublin Airport (travel time approx. 3 hours).
During the photo tour Ireland, we will stay in good hotels, which offer all amenities. Since the weather in Ireland can sometimes be a little unsettled, we have consciously chosen hotels that also ensure a pleasant stay for rainy days.
You will stay overnight in a beautiful, family-run 4-star hotel in the centre of the small town of Belmullet. The hotel has 21 beautiful, stylish rooms with Wifi, kettle, an espresso machine, hair dryer, safe and more. The hotel also offers a nice bar with 2 fireplaces and a particularly good restaurant.
In Leenaun, you will stay in Ireland’s oldest inn directly on Killary Fjord. The family-run hotel serves fresh fish from the sea and vegetables from its own garden. All rooms are individually furnished with traditional décor. The hotel is an ideal base for exploring Connemara. Facilities include a bar, a large restaurant and a lounge.
This family-run hotel is located in the village of Lahinch and is a good starting point for the spectacular Cliffs of Moher. The 4-star hotel has 30 rooms, which are modern in design and equipped with every comfort. The hotel’s restaurant serves excellent food.
The Irish weather is always bit of a surprise. Sun, clouds and rain keep changing. Perfect for photography! The months from April to mid-June has normally most sunny days and are therefore considered the best travel time for Ireland. In spring, from March to May, the average maximum temperature is between 8 and 15°C.
The trip does not require any special physical requirements. We will take short hikes to the photo locations. Individual photo locations may be a little exposed. However, if you are afraid of heights there is always the possibility to take pictures from a little further back.
We will put together the exact daily program on site at short notice in order to be able to deal with the respective weather and light conditions. In order to capture images at the right time and with the best light during the golden and blue hour, we will be out and about especially during the times of sunrise and sunset. In between, during noon or in the afternoon, you will have free time to rest a little, explore the surroundings or, if you wish, take part in picture reviews and tutorials.
If you wish or if fantastic weather and light moods arise, we can also include another photo session in the afternoon.
Single travellers can book half of a double room. If there is no other guest who wants to share the room, the single room surcharge will apply.
We strongly advise you to purchase insurance for cancellation and return journey costs, which will be needed in the event of a secluded region being evacuated, a local hospital stay or return travel costs to your home country.
