Although I have already travelled to Ireland a few times, the wild west of the Emerald Isle surprised me with more great spots, which were visited at the best time thanks to the very competent tour guides Jenny and Bernard. Nevertheless, the trip is not set up as a hectic journey criss-crossing the county, but also leaves enough time to relax. I also got to know lots of great cafés again :) ...and that's exactly how I imagined my holiday week would be!
My trip to Ireland, Connemara and Mayo, was my second trip with Amazing Views. This trip was accompanied by Jenny (founder and managing director of Amazing Views) and local photographer Bernard Geraghty. The very harmonious collaboration between the two, their intimate knowledge of the landscapes combined with the local weather conditions and the clear and detailed sharing of their expertise are the basis for a very successful trip. The flawless planning of the journey, local transport, the choice of hotels and lunch/dinner/coffee spots provide a great recreational value. This trip is unique due to the combination of great photo locations and the insight into Irish culture. I will be back next year and will bridge the time in between with workshops in Switzerland.
It was a varied journey that conveyed impressions of Mayo, Achill Island and Connemara. Imposing coastlines, a lighthouse, lonely fishermen's huts, a pier left to decay, (sandy) beaches, a pretty harbour town, stone walls that divide the land and at the same time give a ‘face’ to the lush green meadows with grazing sheep, to name just a few examples. Incidentally, the weather was a sky-blue colour and there was no shortage of rainbows. Bernard, the man on site, made sure that we were in the right place at the right time: Early in the morning by the mirror-smooth lake or at an exciting spot for the sunset, but also in a nice coffee house with really good coffee. Or in a restaurant with fine food. Thanks to Jenny, Bernard and Felix, I'm no longer at war with grey filters and I've acquired a taste for long exposures. I would never have thought. It's wonderful that you can always count on support. Thank you very much for all the suggestions and tips.
The trip was well organised and in my opinion we were always in the right place at the right time. The photo spots were great! Different options were sometimes offered so that everyone could choose the right one. I personally really appreciated that. Our photo guides Ralf and Bernard did a great job! They were always helpful and friendly and drove us safely to our destination, even on the long days. I learnt a lot again! The accommodation was also very comfortable, nothing to complain about. I loved Ireland and would definitely recommend the trip to others. I will certainly be travelling with Amazing Views again next time!
It was a great photo tour in a country that is a little overlooked but offers great scenic opportunities. The guides are very knowledgeable and the places we went to are great. As always, everything is perfectly organized so we only have to focus on taking pictures. Highly recommended.
Individual travel to Dublin. We will meet you at Dublin Airport during the morning. Then we will drive southwest to County Kerry. You will stay in Killarney for the first three nights. The region around the bustling city of Killarney is a paradise for photography and nature lovers.
Look forward to wild and rugged landscapes with magnificent forests, idyllic lakes and rushing waterfalls. In addition to landscape photography, we also keep an eye out for deer. With a bit of luck, you can already capture your first wildlife pictures.
We will arrange the exact day program at short notice on site, in order to be able to respond to the respective weather and light conditions. We also take into account where the deer are at the moment when planning at short notice. Deer are mostly active mainly during sunrise and sunset.
Due to the small group size we can optimally respond to your individual needs and discuss photographic topics of your choice and put them into practice immediately (e.g. long time exposures, use of filters, animals in bad light conditions etc.). If required, we will also have time for image reviews or tutorials on image editing.
During our stay in Killarney you will visit, among other things, the national park and an idyllic, very remote valley. You will discover and photograph wonderful lake landscapes, roaring waterfalls, mystical landscapes and much more. The dramatic landscapes and an impressive mountain scenery will inspire you. With a bit of luck, you can photograph deer here and there again and again.
Today you will travel east again. Wicklow lies in a sheltered location on the east coast of Ireland. It has high mountain ranges, dark mountain lakes, rolling hills and beautiful vantage points and fairy-tale forests. The Wicklow Mountains National Park with its scenery offers a fantastic environment with many great opportunities for further photo sessions. Wicklow has also been the scene of some filming. The successful movie “PS I love you” was filmed here. During two full days you will photograph fascinating wildlife, rushing waterfalls and epic landscapes.
The photo tour Ireland ends today. You will be driven to the airport in Dublin in good time.
During the photo tour Ireland, we will stay in good hotels, which offer all amenities. Since the weather in Ireland can sometimes be a little unsettled, we have consciously chosen hotels that also ensure a pleasant stay for rainy days.
Our elegant hotel in Killarney provides an ideal base for exploring the nearby Killarney National Park. You will stay in spacious, individually designed rooms with a marble bathroom, free wireless internet, tea and coffee facilities, flat screen satellite TV and CD player. The hotel has a pool, steam room, sauna and a wellness spa for soothing beauty treatments and massages. From the restaurant you can enjoy a beautiful view of the landscape.
Our accommodation is situated in the heart of the longest glacial valley in Ireland. It makes the perfect base for exploring the rugged beauty of Wicklow, also known as the ‘Garden County of Ireland’. The lodge is a friendly, family run business with a cosy pub atmosphere and has lots of old memorabilia, paying homage to the area’s rich and colourful history.
The Irish weather is always bit of a surprise. Sun, clouds and rain always alternate. Perfect for photography! The temperatures vary between 7 and 15 °C in Autumn. This season convinces mainly with the beautiful autumn colours, although it might rain a little more than in summer.
The trip does not require any special physical requirements. We will take short hikes to the photo locations. Individual photo locations may be a little exposed. However, if you are afraid of heights there is always the possibility to take pictures from a little further back.
We will put together the exact daily programme on site at short notice in order to be able to deal with the respective weather and light conditions. To make sure you can capture shots at the right time with the right light in the golden and blue hours, we will be outside especially during the sunrise and sunset times. In between, during lunch or in the afternoon, you will have free time to take a rest, explore the surroundings or take part in photo discussions and tutorials. If fantastic weather and lighting conditions arises, we can also add another photo session in the afternoon.
Single travellers can book half of a double room. If there is no other guest who wants to share the room, the single room surcharge will apply.
We strongly advise you to purchase insurance for cancellation and return journey costs, which will be needed in the event of a secluded region being evacuated, a local hospital stay or return travel costs to your home country.
