In April 2022, my husband and I went on a photo expedition around Spitsbergen on the M/S Virgo. An absolutely extraordinary trip with great impressions of a fantastic Arctic and touching wildlife encounters that we will not forget for a long time. A big thank you goes to Jenny and Daisy for their excellent support. They always had an open ear for the participants, questions were always gladly answered and there was never a shortage of fun. The M/S Virgo is an absolutely brilliant ‘starting point’ for photo expeditions, as everything is very well tailored to the needs of photographers. As I took photographs myself and my husband accompanied the trip as a non-photographer, we were initially sceptical about what it would be like for our partner travelling with a group of photographers. He was very well integrated by Jenny, Daisy, the guides and fellow travellers and certainly had just as much fun as I did. We often think back to the trip and always say to ourselves ‘What we were able to experience there’... Thank you again!
The Spitsbergen tour with Amazing Views gave us a close-up immersion into the wildlife world that I would not have thought possible. When I signed up for this trip I thought, so few days for so much money. That changed completely. Every single day seemed like a fulfilling eternity. It's hard to believe how every sense of time dissolved. We were in this incredibly special world, in Spitsbergen, for a long, long time.
Amazing Views, Nansen Polar Expeditions, Daisy Gilardini and David McEown provided a great experience. Many thanks to the team for giving us such an exceptional experience and providing us with optimal opportunities to photograph the wonderful wildlife from the best possible vantage points. This trip will be remembered for the high standards that were always met.
Words cannot describe how wonderful the Amazing Views photo adventure around Svalbard was. Fabulous landscapes, wildlife and adventures where you spend time being present in the moment not caring about anything but capturing a great photograph for memory sake, and breathing in fresh air and phenomenal views. We thoroughly recommend this trip to any photographer, whether amateur or professional.
The S/V Rembrandt Van Rijn, specially chartered for this photo expedition, boasts a rich history dating back to 1947 when it served as a herring tug. A comprehensive transformation in 1994 converted it into an elegant three-masted passenger sailing schooner, with successful voyages in Spitsbergen and the Galapagos Islands. Following a complete renovation in 2011, the vessel now features state-of-the-art communication and navigation equipment, fully compliant with current SOLAS regulations.
This vessel proves ideal for expedition cruising among remote islands, offering exceptional viewing opportunities from its spacious deck. Two modern Zodiacs enable access to secluded locations and intimate wildlife encounters.
The ship features three double cabins with portholes and eleven single cabins, including four interior cabins. Each cabin comes equipped with private shower and WC facilities. The dining experience includes three daily meals of international cuisine served buffet-style, while a welcoming bar and reading area provide perfect spaces for relaxation and photo reviews. The vessel operates with a professional crew of nine experienced sailors, two expedition guides, and a skilled chef.
September unveils Greenland’s most enchanting face as the Arctic landscape transforms into a vibrant tapestry of autumn colors. The tundra glows with brilliant shades of red, orange, and gold, creating a stunning contrast against the deep blue fjords and the shimmering white of colossal icebergs. Crisp, clear days provide optimal photography conditions, while nights offer opportunities to capture the ethereal Northern Lights as they paint the sky in mesmerizing shades of green and purple.
Wildlife remains active during this time, with musk oxen grazing peacefully on the tundra and Arctic foxes busily stockpiling provisions for the coming winter. Arctic hares and foxes, transitioning to their winter white coats, create striking subjects against the colorful landscape. Seals can often be seen basking near glacier fronts, and if fortune favors, visitors might glimpse a polar bear on land or the elusive narwhals in the fjord waters. While most seabirds have departed by September, guillemots, kittiwakes, and fulmars linger, and lucky observers may spot eider ducks and Arctic terns with their young. Tundra birds, including geese and waders, embark on their migratory journey in the early part of the month.
This serene, untouched wilderness offers a tranquil and awe-inspiring escape like no other.
We strongly advise you to purchase insurance for cancellation and return journey costs, which will be needed in the event of a secluded region being evacuated, a local hospital stay or return travel costs to your home country.
