Explore the wild and romantic northern part of Ireland with its stunning cliffs, secluded beaches and fantastic bays.
We will have a focus on the rugged and secluded areas of the north-western part of the Wild Atlantic Way in County Donegal, and the region of the legendary Causeway Costal Route in Northern Ireland. Epic landscapes with ever-changing weather and lighting scenes awaits you. The photo motifs that Ireland has to offer, makes the heart of every nature enthusiast photographer beat faster.
As with all our trips, we count on local know-how for this Ireland photo trip. Our professional Irish landscape photographer Bernard Geraghty knows the island like his own pockets and will take you to the very best and most beautiful photo spots, even for those that are remote and inaccessible to the public.
Nature in Ireland demands flexibility as weather conditions can change rapidly. The program will be constantly adapted to the conditions to get the best out of each day.

Great trip! I got what was advertised. And since Sturrall Ridge I know why it is called Photo & Adventure Tours. Spots carefully selected. There is something for everyone, even if you are a bit spoiled like me. The weather was typical for Ireland, but also produced some wonderful pictures. Certainly not my last visit to Ireland. You always get help with photography, and there is plenty of socializing too. I was also able to make lots of new friends, which is always exciting. Great trip, cool group and lots of beautiful pictures.
I really enjoyed this trip a lot and Jennifer and Bernie gave it all. It was a really cool tour that was well organized with a great crew. The group was great also and we had just a week full of laughter and fun.
It was a great photo tour in a country that is a little overlooked but offers great scenic opportunities. The guides are very knowledgeable and the places we went to are great. As always, everything is perfectly organized so we only have to focus on taking pictures. Highly recommended.
The trip was well organized and in my opinion we were always in the right place at the right time. The photo spots were great! Different options were sometimes offered so that everyone could choose the right one. I personally really appreciated that. Our photo guides Ralf and Bernard did a great job! They were always helpful and friendly and drove us safely to our destination, even on the long days. I learned a lot again! The accommodation was also very comfortable, nothing to complain about. I loved Ireland and would definitely recommend the trip to others. For me, there will certainly be a next time with Amazing Views!
It was a varied journey that provided impressions of Mayo, Achill Island and Connemara. Imposing coastlines, a lighthouse, lonely fishermen's huts, a pier left to decay, (sandy) beaches, a pretty harbor town, stone walls that divide the land and at the same time give a "face" to the lush green meadows with grazing sheep, to name just a few examples. Incidentally, the weather was a sky blue and there was no shortage of rainbows. Bernard, the man on site, made sure that we were in the right place at the right time: Early in the morning by the mirror-smooth lake or at an exciting spot for the sunset, but also in a nice coffee house with really good coffee. Or in a restaurant with fine food. Thanks to Jenny, Bernard and Felix, I'm no longer at war with gray filters and I've acquired a taste for long exposures. I would never have thought. It's wonderful that you can always count on support. Thank you very much for all the suggestions and tips.
My trip to Ireland, Connemara and Mayo, was my second trip with Amazing Views. This trip was accompanied by Jenny (founder and managing director of Amazing Views) and local photographer Bernard Geraghty. The very harmonious collaboration between the two, their intimate knowledge of the landscapes combined with the local weather conditions and the clear and detailed sharing of their expertise are the basis for a very successful trip. The flawless planning of the journey, local transportation, the choice of hotels and lunch/dinner/coffee spots provide a great recreational value. This trip is unique due to the combination of great photo locations and the insight into Irish culture. I'll be back next year and will bridge the time in between with workshops in Switzerland.
Although I have already traveled to Ireland a few times, the wild west of the Emerald Isle surprised me with more great spots, which were visited at the best time thanks to the very competent tour guides Jenny and Bernard. Nevertheless, the trip is not set up as a hectic drive criss-crossing the county, but also leaves enough time to relax. I also got to know lots of great cafés again :) ...and that's exactly how I imagined my vacation week would be!
Individual travel to Dublin. We meet at Dublin Airport during the morning. Afterwards we will head northwest to County Donegal with a comfortable minivan. The next few days you will be taking pictures in this region.
The untouched and secluded Donegal is still far away from the big tourist streams and is a paradise for nature lovers. Look forward to wild and rough landscapes with dark mountain lakes, idyllic country roads and a winding coast with impressive cliffs and dreamlike sandy beaches.
We will put together the exact daily programme for the next few days on site at short notice in order to be able to respond to the respective weather and lighting conditions. We will mainly be on the road photographing during the sunrise and sunset. If the weather permits and the sky is clear, we will also go out at nights to photograph the Milky Way.
Thanks to the small group size, we can cater to your individual needs and discuss photographic topics of your choice and put them into practice straight away (e.g. long exposures, use of filters, photography at night, etc.). We will also have time for image discussions or tutorials on image editing.
We spend three full days in the northwest of Ireland. Among other things you will discover and have a chance to photograph the north-western part of the Wild Atlantic Way. The wild west coast of Ireland is the longest coastal route in the world and its section here in Donegal is particularly beautiful. Here nature plays the leading role: from the impressive cliffs, impressive rock arches amidst rushing waves, picturesque lighthouses, dramatic landscapes to the aurora borealis, which can dance across the sky in clear nights.
A visit to the Glenveagh National Park, which is reminiscent of a landscape from JRR Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings”, will also be included during our stay. The highest mountain of Donegal, the majestic Mount Errigal, towers over this beautiful landscape.
Today we continue to Northern Ireland to the legendary Causeway Coastal Route. This stretches from Derry – Londonderry to Belfast and leads to some of Ireland’s most famous landmarks such as the Giant’s Causeway, a UNESCO World Heritage site of 40,000 hexagonal basalt columns falling into the thundering ocean.
The region of the Causeway Costal Route is a true paradise, with countless sandy beaches, fishing villages, green valleys and enchanted castle ruins, offering fantastic photo opportunities. It’s no wonder that you can follow in the footsteps of Game of Thrones. Many scenes from this award-winning TV series were shot here in Northern Ireland.
The next two days we will be on the move from the sunrise to sunset. If the weather does not play along, this won’t prevent us from taking pictures. Especially when the sky is overcast, the roaring surf of the sea, cliffs and castles can be excellently photographed and result in atmospheric, mystical pictures.
After breakfast and check-out, the last leg of the journey takes you along the east coast of Ireland towards Dublin. This region offers an impressive variety of photo opportunities. Along the way, you will photograph dramatic cliffs, historic castles and idyllic harbors.
Arrival and check-in at our last accommodation of the trip in the late afternoon. The hotel is just a short walk from the beautiful, long sandy beach. On a clear day, you can photograph the offshore islands from the beach in a variety of light.
The photo tour ends after breakfast. You will be driven to the airport in good time for your individual journey home or onwards.
During the photo trip Ireland, you stay overnight in very good hotels which offer all amenities. As the weather in Ireland can sometimes be a little unsettled, we have consciously chosen hotels that also ensure a “rainy day” a pleasant stay.
The Country Hotel offers picturesque views of the River Clady and the lakes and mountain peaks of Errigal. The rooms are elegantly furnished and offer guests an appealing décor. Each room has amenities such as a TV, en-suite bathroom and tea and coffee making facilities. Free high-speed WiFi is also available to guests.
The hotel’s restaurant serves a wide range of dishes, including fresh local seafood. There is a bar and the hotel’s health club offers guests a wide range of activities and relaxation options. Relax in the pool, hydrotherapy pool, steam room, sauna, whirlpool and use the fitness room.
Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, the hotel is located in the heart of the picturesque harbor village of Portballintrae. Portballintrae offers the perfect location to discover the most beautiful locations along the Causeway Coastal Route.
The comfortable accommodation at the hotel is equipped with heating, free WiFi and TVs. The bathrooms have bathtubs or showers and hairdryers. A restaurant and a bar are available in the gastronomic area of the hotel. Take advantage of the hotel’s spa and wellness facilities to relax after your photo sessions.
You will stay in a beautiful hotel located directly by the sea. The beach is just a two-minute walk away. The hotel combines modern elegance with the splendor of a 19th century residence.
The rooms with views of the sea, the garden or the golf course have internet access and tea and coffee making facilities.
The hotel includes a restaurant, a lounge with fantastic views of the sea and a cozy bar. Other hotel amenities include a spa, massage, gym and sauna. Dublin Airport is only about 15 minutes away by car.
This photo tour is aimed at both beginners and advanced photographers. You have a basic knowledge of shutter speed, aperture and ISO and are be able to set these on your camera. On this photo tour, you will be individually supervised according to your photography skills.
The Irish weather is always bit of a surprise. Sun, clouds and rain keeps changing. Perfect for photography! The months from April to mid-June has normally most sunny days and are therefore considered the best travel time for Ireland. In spring, from February to April, the average maximum temperature is between 8 and 12°C. April is considered particularly pleasant.
In Ireland the weather can change very quickly. Wind, sun, rain and rarely snow can occur in both spring and autumn. We therefore recommend breathable functional clothing based on the layer principle, which transports perspiration to the outside layers without losing heat and dries quickly. Well-worn hiking shoes with an appropriate profile sole are also important. Make sure to bring rain jacket and rain trousers to keep you dry in case of rain. If you also want to take pictures from the water at the photo locations, we strongly recommend taking waterproof boots or sandals / crocs (Attention: the water can be very cold at this time of year).
You have a good basic level of fitness to be able to take part in short, moderate hikes on the local hiking trails. The hiking trails in Ireland (if they exist at all) can sometimes be a little uneven or boggy, as they usually lead through moorland and heathland or in streams and gorges. Certain places may involve a walking time of around 1 hour per trail. The hiking trails are mostly on flat terrain or involve an incline. Individual photo locations may be somewhat exposed. However, if you are afraid of heights, there is always the option of taking photos from a little further back.
We will put together the exact daily program on site at short notice in order to be able to deal with the respective weather and light conditions. In order to capture images at the right time and with the best light during the golden and blue hour, we will be out and about especially during the times of sunrise and sunset. In between, during noon or in the afternoon, you will have free time to rest a little, explore the surroundings or, if you wish, take part in picture reviews and tutorials. If you wish or if fantastic weather and light moods arise, we can also include another photo session in the afternoon.
Single travellers can book half of a double room. If there is no other guest who wants to share the room, the single room surcharge will apply.
We strongly advise you to purchase insurance for cancellation and return journey costs, which will be needed in the event of a secluded region being evacuated, a local hospital stay or return travel costs to your home country.
The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) regularly publishes information on countries where there are potential security or other risks.
