On this aurora photo tour, you stay in the heart of the Icelandic Golden Circle. With well-known photo locations such as Geysir, Gullfoss, Bruarfoss and many others, there are plenty of great aurora photo motifs in the immediate vicinity.
The focus of this tour are the Northern Lights. The aurora borealis is one of nature’s most impressive wonders, appearing as dancing, colorful lights in green, purple, or even red. Photographing the aurora borealis is an exciting technical challenge for photographers. Darkness, cold, and weather conditions make it difficult to capture the perfect image. During our tour, the aurora borealis will often be visible if weather conditions are favorable. We will support you in creating your dream images. No two photos look the same because the patterns and colors are constantly changing. Each image is a unique work of art that only existed in that moment.
The daily program depends on the weather and we decide spontaneously on the excursions. In addition to photography, you will also have plenty of time for image processing and discussing images together. You will spend the first and last night near Keflavik Airport.
Taking part in this trip to Iceland promises a great experience and fantastic photos.

Once again, we were able to experience a fantastic photo trip that fully met our high expectations. The photo guide Peter is an absolute Iceland expert who knows the country like the back of his hand. Iceland in winter is of course a challenge in terms of weather, but we still came home with excellent pictures. On the one hand, we were lucky enough to be able to photograph beautiful auroras on several nights, but on the other hand, Peter also took us to various very beautiful photo spots during the short day (4 hours of daylight) and gave us excellent support with numerous tips on image composition. We would definitely go on a trip to Iceland with Amazing Views and Peter again.
The photo trip to Iceland was a complete success. Fantastic snowy landscapes offered countless photo opportunities. I was able to take some breathtaking shots home with me. The choice of spots was fantastic, as the guide not only had a trained eye for photography, but also shone with extensive local knowledge. This gave us access to exclusive spots that were also off the beaten track.
Individual arrival to Keflavik. Afterwards, transfer to the hotel near the airport on your own. Of course you will be on the lookout for auroras today.
We start the day with an introductory presentation on travel photography, Iceland and aurora photography in particular. Afterwards you will drive to our accommodation at the Golden Circle.
We organize the daily schedule spontaneously on site according to the weather forecast and aurora activity. The highest priority is aurora photography at night. To do this, you go to ideal, dark locations that have no urban “light pollution”.
If aurora observations are unlikely, you take trips to the surrounding area. A variety of motifs can form ideal foregrounds for aurora pictures.
During the course of the day, you drive to Reykjavik and on to our hotel in Keflavik.
The photo tour ends today. You will take your own transfer from the hotel to Keflavik Airport, from where you will start your individual journey home or onwards.
During the Iceland Golden Circle Aurora photo tour, you will stay in accommodation that is ideally located close to the photo spots.
Just a short drive from the airport, our accommodation offers a magnificent view of the sea. The rooms are comfortable and cozy with free wifi and air conditioning. Each room has a flat-screen satellite TV and a bathroom with a shower, free toiletries and a hairdryer.
The hotel serves a full English/Irish breakfast daily, giving you an energizing start to the day. The restaurant offers a culinary experience that supports local farmers and fishermen and celebrates the community’s culinary heritage. There is also a communal lounge where you can relax and socialize with other guests.
Our hotel is only a few kilometers away from the impressive Gullfoss waterfall. The rooms are comfortably furnished. They have coffee and tea facilities, a TV and a private bathroom. The rooms offer everything you need for a pleasant stay. There is a cozy lobby with a seating area and TV. The restaurant serves traditional Icelandic dishes and a fine breakfast buffet awaits you in the morning. The hotel offers free wifi.
This photo tour is aimed at both beginners and advanced photographers. You have a basic knowledge of shutter speed, aperture and ISO and are be able to set these on your camera. On this photo tour, you will be individually supervised according to your photography skills.
In January, Iceland’s Golden Circle is a snow-covered winter wonderland with cold temperatures and changeable weather. Average daytime temperatures are around 1 degree Celsius. It cools down further at night. Snow is common and transforms the landscape into a winter wonderland. Strong winds can make the weather feel colder and affect conditions for outdoor activities. Clear nights are perfect for photographing the Northern Lights.
Auroras are a natural phenomenon. Visibility depends, among other things, on the activity of the sun and the weather (cloud cover). Auroral sightings cannot be guaranteed.
Iceland is one of the most active geological regions in the world, characterized by powerful forces of nature. It is precisely these natural phenomena that make Iceland a very special travel destination. With rapidly changing weather and often dramatic lighting conditions, fantastic photos are possible. The country is known for its geothermal activity, which is visible through geysers and hot springs. Northern lights and the midnight sun make the forces of nature visible in the sky. Our local guide is very familiar with the forces of nature in Iceland. Our daily program will be adapted to the current weather conditions and our route may be changed slightly to make the most of the photo tour.
Please note that this journey will take you into wintry and occasionally challenging conditions. A good level of basic fitness and physical condition is required to participate in moderate hikes, during which you will carry your own photography equipment. Depending on the weather, the ground may be icy or covered in snow. You should be comfortable putting on and using shoe spikes without difficulty.
Due to the changeable weather in Iceland, you need to be prepared for all weather conditions. We therefore recommend breathable functional clothing based on the layer principle, which transports sweat to the outside without losing heat and dries quickly.
Single travellers can book half of a double room. If there is no other guest who wants to share the room, the single room surcharge will apply.
We strongly advise you to purchase insurance for cancellation and return journey costs, which will be needed in the event of a secluded region being evacuated, a local hospital stay or return travel costs to your home country.
