Paulo is renowned nature photographer from Costa Rica. He has been working with Amazing Views since 2023.
A Costa Rican born and raised, Paulo Valerio began birding at the age of 12. Following a family passion, he pursued a career in natural Sciences and graduated as a Tropical Ecologist from the Biology School of the National University, where he also worked in the Soil and Hydrology Lab. During his graduate studies, he specialized in the development of sampling and research methods for the then little-known high-flying bats in the rainforest canopy.
Involved with Ecotourism since 1991, Paulo has worked as a naturalist and birding guide and field instructor for several companies and developed and directed field study programs for the National Learning Institute (INA) in Costa Rica and universities in the United Sates, including Nassau Community College in New York, Pepperdine University in California (where he was an Associate Professor) and Auburn University in Alabama. He has also collaborated in tour guide training seminars and tour program development in Cuba, Honduras, Panama, Ecuador, Argentina, and Chile.
He has taught Tropical Ecology courses and workshops at the One Earth One People international events, organized by the Woodleaf Outdoor School and Foundation in California, and lectured several times at the NSTA (National Science Teachers Association) conventions in the USA. He has been invited as a speaker for several years in a row, to the Space Coast Bird Festival in Florida USA, and the San Diego Audubon Bird Fest in California, USA, and has been a featured speaker for the Road Scholar Program in Costa Rica for 24 years.
For many years, Paulo has successfully led photo workshops in Costa Rica and Ecuador. He has thus managed to perfectly combine his great interests and passions for wildlife observation and photography.
